Position of fire surround
Comments (8)Tani, I would buy a new hearth; you can get it quite cheap as a slate tile (just buy one tile in the size you need!) http://www.mandarinstone.com/product/_/299/black-riven-slate-tile/?cid=19 Or go to a local stone yard, they must have what you need http://www.steptoesyard.co.uk/products/sawn-stone-and-masonry.html http://www.lancashirestoneandreclamation.co.uk/index.php Are you sure the surround doesn't come with its own hearth? some do. Don't forget you are going to need to glue and seal the surround; our builder used some basic silicone filler to do it (and did it badly too!) See a few pics below with wood burner&surround. PS - love your floor! It's gorgeous!...See MoreMixing wood tones (floor/ furniture/ fire surround)?
Comments (10)Very interesting comments Bagpuss, thank you. I guess its not too late to change the furniture order! I would have never thought to use ivory furniture so that's definitely something to think about and I'm all for bringing in more light. I am planning ivory furniture for our living room, hallway and bedroom too (I love ivory furniture), so thought we'd do something different in the dining room. The walls are light too (off white/ nearly ivory) - that's another issue as I'm not sure that colour is suitable or needs to be changed. I actually thought (hoped!) the Mango furniture would create a contrast with the flooring as opposed to a clash and there are some (albeit few) darker tones in the mango furniture that match the flooring so there is a bit of a connection (or so I thought). And it sounds like I'll definitely need to rethink the fireplace altogether!...See MoreRug feedback should it stay or go ?
Comments (15)Thank you ED , Carolina and Emily . Based on your comments , we will keep the rug for now whilst we get the rest of the furnishing for the room and review once all in . The Stockholm mirror was really nice but it’s veneer which doesn’t look at great against real wood , I will keep looking for a brass one . In regards to a coffee table . Do you think I should have side table by the sofas , we are planning to get the chair version of the blue two seater where the wicker chair is at some stage . Or should we go for a centre coffee table in front of the chesterfield ? Personally I think tables at the side seem more functional but maybe a central coffee table is more of a traditional approach If central table was thinking a glass table with brass or / black frame or a black coffee table as it so difficult to get all the woods to match . Other option would be an buttoned Ottoman maybe ? Thank you all...See MoreWhat should we do with our garden? Or should we leave it?
Comments (6)Thanks sksj1, I didn't realise this could be done. We haven't managed to get a configuration that works for us yet and the outward bifold doors stops us putting the dining table under the covered area as you have to move the whole lot out of the way each time you open the bifolds. Will explore this further. Thanks....See Morerab111
