need help with lighting over kitchen table

Have a round 50 inch wood table. base of table is iron. Have satin nickel fixtures and bronze tiles so can do different finishes. Kitchen style is transitional to contemporary. Would like a pendant or chandelier that isn't too expensive.

Hi zaazaa, the photo is a bit small to see clearly, but perhaps something with glass that is clean and simple might work for your space.

A good lighting showroom should be able to help you with this - there will be lots of options and your choice is likely to depend on your anticipated use of the island or specific areas on it. Different bulbs and fittings will give different spread of light which, in turn, will be further affected by the height of the bulb above the working surface. As you won't want to be working in your own shadow you will most likely want a wide lighting angle so it will be a nearby bulb, not the one above you, which gives your task lighting. I'm not sure where you're based but Thompsons Lighting in Larne, Co Antrim (www.thompsonslighting.co.uk) are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Hmmm that would depend on the size of your chandelier and the size of your table and the height of your room/table as well. Also the height of the people in your household. Usually i would say aim that your chandelier is less than half the size of your table. If it is bigger hand it up higher. Else something about 90 to 110cm or 30 to 35 inches above the surface of your table.

This light is shown in "Winter Gold" which is a silver/gold painted finish that looks very nice with multiple finishes. It also is available in Oil Rubbed Bronze & just came out in Brushed Nickel.

Try Ikea, they have a big white one that might work. Hang so 36" above table top. Or something with brush nickel. .

On that bare wall, add2 6 ft floor mirrors with wide dark frames. Also IKEA. Add panels to ends only on window, go a pattern. With color.
