Nice in white??

We have been on the dreaded sofa hunt and prefer something more modern to most of the sofas you find in the local stores.
However most of the trendy ones I love the look off are online only (or 2 far away to visit) and in my experience, aren't that comfy.
So we found this one in Sofaworks on a special price which, for a very comfy leather sofa, I think is quite a modern style. It has chrome slimline legs as well.

We want to have it in white though as it's going on a rich walnut gloss floor. Do you think it will look Classic in a Coton ice white colour?? Or is that a bad choice?

The blue-black one is nice and Chesterfield style really doesn't meet your tiny person/back support criteria (they are nice in other people's homes). You have saved all those pics to your Ideabook for a reason, so stick with it and go with the grey.

I've had so many friends who regretted buying white sofas; it's enough to seat on one in your jeans for few hours and it gets stained. Most have it covered with some throw or blanket, which in my opinion is just silly - why buy white if you then cover it with something else.

If you want something light, I'd go grey! Not just because is the trend; it's modern, feels light enough and doesn't show dirt and stains like a pure white. Plus I already know you like grey :))

It's up to you, but I'd rather have white or off-white walls and accessories to balance the darkness of the floor than a sofa that requires a lot of maintenance.

Ha ha, oh no! I was hoping you would say it's a great idea

I'm not convinced by a grey leather though as I haven't really seen one. Would it not look a bit dirty perhaps?

Only seen the sofa when I posted and we have to decide whether to order it by tomorrow morning - otherwise it won't arrive b4 xmas, Argh. Pressure.

Ok, been a while but we have (slowly) but doing some things. 1) New kitchen shelves and new wall mounted spice rack (ikea picture shelves), 2) New white unit at the back of kitchen (with new coffee machine on it) 3) Mirror on the wall about white unit 4) Two new more modern ceiling flights to replace the chandeliers 5) Painted the entire room myself, except the ceiling as you can see. I simply don't have a ladder tall enough to get up there as the ceilings are so high. 6) New PVC table cloth to stop my 8 month old ruining the wooden table. 7) To the left of the new white unit, got rid of wine fridge (did shed a tear) and bought a new standard fridge to help with the load of the other fridge - so we now have a fridge for veggies / fruit and my sons food and one for meat / drinks/ cheese etc The result, i think, is a much nicer, lighter and spacious room and we've managed to create a hell of a lot more cupboard and fridge space for ourselves which was much needed. I hated the old chandeliers and i'm delighted with the new lights we chose. I'll do some better photos soon but wanted to update this. Thanks to all who made comments and suggested things ! (of course all the entire apartment is 100% High CRI Dimmable LED Lights (my own company). Chris

Hi! You need something that brings an element of all colours into your lounge would be a great addition. Such as the attached. White I feel would look too bland and be too far a contrast against all of the other colours, whereas grey may be a little too much, as you do have grey throughout your room. Something that hits right in the middle would be best for your room. What colours will your walls be? Painted or wallpaper? Any Pattern? I am currently experimenting with slightly off white. Contenders so far are Colourtrend Arctic Blonde, RAL 9010 and Benjamin Moore Simply White. Most whites veer towards yellow or pink which can be a problem. For years I used Dulux Almond White which has a neutral brownish tinge but can be a little overbearing in dark rooms.

This is the other sofa we liked (which again looks better in person!) it's like a soft velvet fabric that comes in a blue/black tone which is just beautiful and not as harsh as black. It's also on silver legs. A more practical colour - but I've always had leather before & I'm a bit scared of eating/drinking on a fabric one as it gets so messy!

Do a quick search of grey sofas (google and Houzz); I think you can tell they are grey, not dirty :)). To me, cream or beige-yellow-y ones look dirty.

But if you are not sure, then consider a dark tan or brown, close to your floor colour. The idea being: floor and sofa make one block of colour that you then balance with light walls (another block), rug (another block) and then some bold accessories for contrast!

I would have loved a proper tan colour but they only do a dark one and I don't want brown or black (again) if I could help it.

Yes I will have a look at the grey leather ones on line. It's so hard choosing one when you can't see what it will look like.

You know, we spent less time choosing our house! LOL!

The blue-black looks great, I really like it! have it treat it with anti-stain, or whatever is called. Costs a bit, but I'm sure it's worth it.

Another point: we also had mainly leather sofas, then bought a velvet one for the bedroom. It felt so wonderful, we then changed our living room sofas to fabric - it's just so much warmer and comfier than leather!

Do u think, if I chickened out and went for it in black, that

A) it would still look nice
B) I could add a different colour chair in a different material? Or would it look odd?

The cloud grey did look nice but I read it's in a budget leather of 1mm thick so I'm a bit wary about how it wears.

Hi. So what I'm hearing is that you want a new sofa before Christmas so you are going to buy something you don't really like and aren't really sure of.... Please wait and choose something you will love because you will be sitting on it and looking at it for years and years. I can lend you a couple of cushions if you have nothing else to sit on in the meantime :)

Because I really don't want you to get that black OR white leather sofa and in case Luciana's "nooooo" wasn't enough, I looked at your Ideabook for Living Room and there is no white leather and while there are two black leather couches, they are chesterfield style, not at all like the one you posted above.

If Sofaworks is handy, look at these two that they have - Canterbury and Nova (personally, I'm impressed with Jive and they would look great with walnut floors, but it might not be your style). Both of these aren't a solid coloured fabric but have a multi-weave in them if you look up close. This means that marks don't show up so much (definitely get the anti-stain application, too, because it can't hurt). And they are waaaaaay nicer than the above option. I have a couch in a fabric like the Jive one that I've had for 12 years and I have a dog, dog visitors, godchildren who like marmite, and accident prone, red wine drinking friends, and my couch still looks good.

Ha ha, thanks, I will have a look. They don't hold every style in sofa works which is frustrating as there were about 5 I liked that weren't on display. Grrr.

No I do love the style of that sofa but I just wanted a change from black (which I've always had) and wasn't sure about grey in leather.

Yes it's all a rush but the only other places I can try are in line now so I can't try them out or do the 4yrs interest free credit

Yes the nova is lovely but is too deep for us (we are short) and like back support unless I'm lying down. Honestly we aren't as old as we sound, ha ha.

The wood one - I did spot that but was worried it would clash or, when we moved, might not go with our future flooring.

The other one is fine as well but I didn't get to sit in it so might not have been there?

Tani, I really like the blue-black one above (not the cushions though :)) I think that with a colourful armchair will look great.

Like boundsgreener, I had a look at your ideabook - have you noticed how many of your saved photos have off-black (almost grey!!!!) sofas?

I never had a Chesterfield; can't tell you how it will feel after two hours of watching TV - I just think that low back can't be that great.

Have you looked at Next sofas? I bought a few over the years from them because I always find them so comfy; most of their sofas have medium-high back, so it supports your neck. Same with M&S, but if you catch a sale.

Ah yeah, ha ha, I do prefer grey and filled up my ideasbook with them mainly because I wanted a change from the black.
I've decided if I go for leather, I will stick to black and if a fabric, then grey or that dark blue colour

Not checked out Next yet - will have to find a showroom and have a look
