Currently building an extension, we have walls but no roof yet.
New kitchen is going in extended area. Already decided on white gloss cupboards, grey quartz work tops, ivory matt porcelain tiles. (Plan shows wrong colour floor)
I really want a sociable island for the four of us, where we are not sat in a line but can see each other, as I really want to eat most of our meals here and have a more formal dining area. More than 4 seats would be a bonus. Not sure if island in current design will be tight?
I think the induction hob should be the same side as the sink?
Does anyone have a steam oven? Do you use it? Currently opted for 65L oven, 36L oven/microwave, 38L steam oven. But not sure if we should change the latter to another 65L oven? I currently have 90cm Range-master and use all the space in it.
Where you see a row of tall plain cupboards, the 2 on the right will be a free standing american freezer. Not sure if having TV on wall, that was just the designer.
Trying to decide on a signature colour for whole open plan area....husband doesn't want a signature colour...
Any other suggestions comments? As nothing is written in stone yet. Many thanks.

Comments (6)I like Option 2 honestly. Obviously you are finding it hard to visalize what the space will look like but honestly that is a huge space so I would recommend putting in the utility considering what you gain from it. You gain a space where you can block out the sound of the washing machine- who wants that sound when your eating dinner? Also washing is unsightly- do you wants piles of clothes in your nice brand spanking new kitchen? In terms of the corridor you are going to have lots of light coming through from the new extension. When you enter the front door and can see straight through to the garden spaces feel much bigger than they actually are anyway. Also who says it has to be boring. Have some fun wallpaper or colourful art hanging. Also if you want to make something more spacious use sliding doors for utility and wc. Less items infringing on corridor space. And lastly, the reception is purely personal preference based upon how your family function. Personally I prefer two rooms. Allows for more space to get away from the open plan area. Comments (6)Thank you for your kind comments. Our original kitchen was a dark and dingy internal one with only one fan light above a solid door giving very little borrowed light. Last year we opened up the original doorway near the sink, to make way for the tall window to the hall, then we closed off the original door and replaced it with another tall window, and to finish it off, we turned the room around to give a full length of units and worktops, and installed a full length glass door with fanlight almost to ceiling, and the result is that we still have an internal kitchen, but with loads of borrowed light from all over the place. It now never gets dark. We opted not to have drainage flutes as we have a full size dishwasher, and this allowed us to maximise the lemgth of worktops. I am reliably told that flutes on granite or Quartz worktops are a waste of time and space. Perhaps I should say that I (68) designed the kitchen, including the windows and door, and my husband of 75 installed the kitchen units, did the plumbing, with only the worktops being done by the supplier. It is perfectly level and he has done an amazing job, perfectly level! As for th alessi trivet, that was a treat after weeks of disruption (May 25th to August 29th. Comments (11)Hi there. I think your kitchen looks fab but agree the render maybe creating a slighting different feeling of the space. I create 3D renders for most of my clients and offer a package creating 3D visuals to show clients what their space will look like once done and this one definitely doesn't give a very homely feel to the space with the colour and lighting shown. I have attached a few images to show you the sort of 3D images we use to give you a feel for the space as a whole. I agree with Jonathan above that the sink would be better nearer the dining table - another plus up this is when you enter with shopping your island will be where you head and with that moved you will have a better layout of space for that. 9 years agolast modified: 9 years agohban7, please listen to One Plan (Karen's) advice; she's an experienced designer and I find that from a practical point of view when it comes to kitchen design, she's unbeatable :))!!
Now if you want some suggestions about the looks, I'm here to help as well :))
Firstly, I have to say that I'm happy to see there's someone else out there that doesn't' go for a boring all rectangular island; all the kitchen designers I dealt with looked at me appalled when I suggested curved lines on an island. However, in your case, I'd take it further and enlarge the end of the island, either by going for an oval or a slightly more accented curved shape. I attached a few pics of different rounded islands (last one is my own!); also your own design but with an oval end. If you go for something like that, it would probably have to be made from 2 slabs of quartz... a good designer should be able to discuss this with you.
Next, I wouldn't go for ivory white floor tiles. They are going to show everything, you'll be wiping them twice a day to keep them 'magazine-worthy'. Have you considered a light grey tile for the floor? You have the worktop in grey, it should tie in nicely with the floor.
Sorry, can't help with the steam oven, never had one.
I'm not entirely sure what you refer to when you mention a signature colour - if it's just a hue you love... go for it.

9 years agoBounds greener. Great idea to put the FF where cupboard BH50R is and build cupboard around the corner....Then the kids still get the ice maker, and not as far from main new kitchen area.
I attach a plan from the architect, my current back kitchen door will go into a utility room, and from the utility room you can access the back of the garage. Kitchen shape he just drew in as a suggestion in first photo below.
I also like the link Luciana sent, where the American FF is integrated in the purple kitchen next to ovens, I would have to move ovens along, would lose 2 tall cupboards...but is it ok the put a FF next to ovens?
i also attach 3 photos of a plan I did myself on an app to give you an idea what it will look like layout...ignore wall colours etc...Im far from picking that yet! May put dining room table other in line with the island...Im stuck with brown leather chairs for now...!

The plan shows our family TV room as "day room". We want to put a TV on a stud wall, with a bio fuel fire. We were contemplating accessing the TV from the other side(where I currently show a row of cupboards) I want some cupboard space for out of season

9 years agoFollowing all your comments, thinking now of not doing u shaped kitchen so American fridge freezer (FF) in the main kitchen.
Therefore L shaped kitchen, blocking off current back door so I can put a coat cupboard with sliding doors. Wall opposite could be either a bar/seat/desk...don't know what yet.
Then moving entrance to utility from the main kitchen area next to FF.
Keeping the rounded edge island that was liked on here, but not attaching the island to the wall so no dead end. Could be 3m long as originally planned, but wider due to revised kitchen shape.
What do u think? Improvement?
