Need help for my living room
Comments (20)I have a two very similar rooms to this. In the living room I painted the coving, windows, door and skirts in Railings by farrow and ball (it's a very dark blue black). It looks bloody fabulous and because of the height and scale of the room it can really carry it off and looks very grand. I then wallpapered the entire room in the scion range by harlequin. Be bold, rooms like this can really take it. The bedroom which is identical I painted completely in RAilings (walls, coving, skirts, doors etc) and it looks awesome and every single person that sees it loves it although 99% of people wouldn't be brave enough to do it as it's very dark. Google abigail AHern as she loves using dark paint throughout her interiors and it really works, esp if you have a period property . I personally stay away from feature walls as I think they've had their day and look a bit 'changing rooms' circa 2002.... I've also put white wooden Venetian blinds (got them made to measure from ebay as were a lot cheaper) which also lifts both rooms. I also put a wood burner in the fireplace in the living room and have crucial trading dark grey carpets throughout. Good luck!...See MoreHelp, need help updating my rented living room!
Comments (4)Hi Claire, You have a lovely space to work with and it’s great to hear that you’re up for doing a bit of DIY! In regards to the coffee table, go for it! It’s a lovely design and will complement the characteristics of the room perfectly. I’d dress the table with a gorgeous green plant - not only will this add vibrant colour, but also adds life to your space and is guaranteed to make you smile. As suggested by Minnie, a floor standing plant situated underneath your fitted wall shelves will add a feature to this corner of your room. If you fancy doing a little bit of painting, why not head to your nearest charity shop and find a sweet side table to place to the left of your sofa or either side of your armchair? Choose your favourite Dulux paint colour (in a Satinwood finish) and paint your table to add a personalised touch to your space! This will create such a lovely statement as you enter the room, especially if you choose a beautiful blue to create that coastal look. Adding a side lamp to the side table will add height and a lovely ambiance to your room, especially in the evenings when you’re snuggled up watching TV. To give your IKEA unit a fresh look, dress it with these lovely storage boxes which will work so perfectly with the scheme you want to achieve: http://goo.gl/zrKf2u Finally, if your budget stretches, take a look at these lovely cushions from Dunelm. The prices are amazing and I think they will finish the look so well. Comments (15)I think you could put the tv in the opposite corner on the other side of the window, then put the two chairs (if they'll fit) side by side on that wall (with the door) with the table in between. If these are a bit too snug, you could always angle them into the centre of the room. Then the sofa could go opposite the window at right angles to the door, but a little over towards the fireplace wall. This will give you clearly defined "square" sitting room area, which you can further delineate with a rug in your chosen accent colour and then add coordinating or matching cushions and throws. I would then move what I think is a glass cabinet (in the corner of the dining part of the room) to the left hand side of the radiator cabinet. I would then try to move the dining table more towards the kitchen and the now empty corner. For the dining table I would look at getting something like a table runner or a big bowl/vase/ornament with reflects your chosen accent colour which will visually join up the two areas. I would also be tempted to replace one of the pictures with a large mirror. And also perhaps think about getting different wall art....See MoreNeed some help with where to put my tv in my front room
Comments (1)I think we probably need some photos and/or sketches to answer the question, including where you're thinking of putting sofas etc?...See Morespidermanadam
