Our new extension flooring, what to do?

We are having a new large open space created from the entrance way all the way through to the back family room with bi fold doors.

I really do not know what flooring to go for. We have dogs and 3 kids. I love the ceramic high gloss and think that would give the wow impact but fear they may be slippy and high maintenance. Or do I go for matt ceramic or I do like large planked wood but what style of these!
I'm having a high gloss kitchen with bamboo and a large feature wall in differ stones.

Please help, advise needed

Wow - sounds amazing! I wouldn't go for gloss floors due to high maintenance! What colour is your kitchen? I like the sound of the stones and I think wooden flooring would look lovely and create a warm and inviting atmosphere too. How about a dark timber flooring? Have you thought about vinyl options?

I'm still slightly undecided on the colour of kitchen as it depends on floor but currently gloss stone colour cabinets with a darker top, a slab of bamboo on the other side of the island.
I actually like wood and thought maybe the ceramic wood tile? It's so confusing, and I don't want to spend an absolute fortune!

I like Option 2 honestly. Obviously you are finding it hard to visalize what the space will look like but honestly that is a huge space so I would recommend putting in the utility considering what you gain from it. You gain a space where you can block out the sound of the washing machine- who wants that sound when your eating dinner? Also washing is unsightly- do you wants piles of clothes in your nice brand spanking new kitchen? In terms of the corridor you are going to have lots of light coming through from the new extension. When you enter the front door and can see straight through to the garden spaces feel much bigger than they actually are anyway. Also who says it has to be boring. Have some fun wallpaper or colourful art hanging. Also if you want to make something more spacious use sliding doors for utility and wc. Less items infringing on corridor space. And lastly, the reception is purely personal preference based upon how your family function. Personally I prefer two rooms. Allows for more space to get away from the open plan area. Mini adults room and a kids room/study. Hope this helps

Hi Jonathandb1972, many thanks for your comments. We considered a few different options for the roof ... in the picture below is that what you mean by roof hip? I agree, there is a lot of glass in the formal lounge. This side of the house gets sun most of the day, so we're a bit torn as to whether to let the sun in or make it cosy. Maybe we need to compromise and put in standard windows rather than full height. Will have a think about that one ... Once again, many thanks for your input.

Just to say I've got ceramic wood tile in my hall and living room and the first time a friend saw it, she asked if I was putting anything on the floor. It can really work and is so easy to look after. You'll lose the depth of real wood but when you've dogs (I have two) easy cleaning trumps that every time!

Got to be luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) all the way! Generally, LVTs are 2.5mm thick, made from 100% pvc (therefore waterproof), come with a thick polyurethane wear layer that normally is backed up with a manufacturers warranty, with a wood or stone effect finish.

LVTs are great with underfloor heating and unlike ceramics, they don't break when heavy objects are dropped on them and unlike wooden floors, once laid, LVTs need no further maintenance other than regular vacuuming and washing. LVTs are almost indestructible!

There are many options available but us Flooring Gurus recommend going for a recognised brand. The whole idea about an LVT is for it to look authentic. They need to genuinely look like the wood or stone flooring they are mimicking. Cheap alternatives, when installed, look ... well ... awful!
