What floor plan would work in this bedroom?

I used to have the 10'7 x 10'7 bedroom, but my sister has moved out and I get to move into her larger bedroom.

Does anyone have any idea on what room plan I could use?

I can purchase new bedside tables which is why only my wardrobe, chest of drawers, bed and dressing table is included in my bedroom

I've made it all to scale, so you can just copy and paste the furniture from my old room to my new room if you'd like!

It'd be such a great help if anyone had any ideas!

HI -- Rosie -- Dytecture is right ---- the new room is a tiny bit bigger square footage wise but the other room will fit your furniture arrangements much better . The other is a little tight. Too narrow, so you are not really gaining anything.

Hi Rosie, I actually think your current room is more usable, but for your new bedroom, I would have the bed right against the window and leaving room for your furniture as you walk in the bedroom.

Wow- so overwhelmed by the replies and all of the help, couldn't appreciate it any more. Emily- thank you so much for your post. It's currently pushed against a wall which works fine but would prefer it to have access either side for a couple if possible :) Ace your space- I really like the layout that way, there is a radiator under the window (i should have said) so would need moving which think may be a bigger job. It's something i would consider though and hadn't though of it that way. Jonathon- I am in love with the pegs they would be perfect. Your room layout is my dream just didn't know if it would be achievable. I have a king size bed at the moment but it's a very big frame so much bigger than the standard measurements so if i turn it your way there is about a 8 cm gap to the shorter wall so it needs replacing. Man about the house- love the layout and interesting to get more than one view thank you so much All- can i please be cheeky and ask another question. I think my issue is a standard size double would fit e.g 190cm long but when i look at standard sites e.g John Lewis, Next, Dreams all of the beds seem to have a frame which is 208-210cm which would just be too long. Do you know where I can find a frame that is 190cm? I would have loved a flip storage bed but recognize that will be too long so I am open to any bed. Budget for bed up to about £700 ish. Less if obviously great and means more money to spend on the rest of room.

You need to consider lots of things when designing overall floor layouts - walkway space, where the sun comes in from, how many inhabitants live here and how many likely guests etc - your kitchen dining for example doesn’t look to have enough walkway space around it and looks too small for six as you’d be overlapping plate space etc etc For projects like this, if you plan to live here some time, it’s worth booking a pro ( like a concept planner ) to either check things through with you, ie working with you to get things right - taking on board all of the info available and coming up with a viable safe design. If this is just a house flip then what ever you do will probably be redone by new owners anyway, so not so important !

The silver option is quite unusual - first question - do you own this property ? If yes - great do whatever you like - if no - then probably not. (White skirting with purple might give a similar impression.)

I much prefer Jonathan’s plan tbh. You would have a lovely spacious ensuite with natural light and it allows for storage under the vanity. Jonathan’s plan has also given more wardrobe space. I also think the view from the bedroom end of your plan of the wardrobes and corridor may look slightly odd in reality. My ensuite is longer than yours but just 1m wide and it doesn’t give a lot of space for storage or getting ready. You may also struggle for towel rail placement. I also find in reality soft seating in a bedroom is just used for dumping clothes (my husband obviously!). I think J’s plan would probably allow for a bed end stool though if you wanted something. It’s what works for you though. If you have the time/budget you could use a concept planner to mock up various options in 3D

Your rooms don't have closets, correct? So you use a wardrobe?

What is your window like (sizewise : high up or close to floor?) In my daughter's room the dresser sits under her window. This gave her much more usable space.

But I like where your bed is right now. Could you put your wardrobe on the wall opposite your bed and then place your dressing table next to your bed? This would then be a dual purpose piece (acts as your night stand).

Any chance you can spill over some into your sister's room? Put your wardrobe there? Create a study/lounge? Or do your parents have their own plans?

Rosie, I'm having a problem copy/pasting. I have to agree a square area presents less challenges, but I know its fun to change space and I love to take on the challenge.
The HINGE:
One way you can maximize the new rooms potential will take a sacrifice on your part. If you would be willing to go to a daybed, then your problem is fixed and we can work a great game plan.
I like Dytecture's plan to put the small chest on the entry wall. I would place a beautiful daybed centered under the window with matching accent floor lamps or small dripping chandeliers on either side of the bed to the corners.
Switch the desk and dresser to the opposite walls for a more open entry into the room. It will instantly bring balance and visual space.
Don't clutter your room with accessories. Do find the perfect colorful floor rug to center the room. It will also give the illusion of expanse. make sure the rug isn't to small.
One more possibility, are you going to repaint the room? If so, consider subtile contrasting colors in big wide stripes. Paint your ceiling the softer of the two colors. I've used this trick in several of my designs to give the illusion of wideness to a narrow long space. It works. I have gone as formal as linen white on antique satin ivory.
Whatever you decide to do, make it your own little haven and have fun with it!

We recently bought the bed, so I think my parents may slowly murder me if I asked to buy a day bed hehe...

I am allowed to repaint the larger room! :)

Yes that's right, I use a wardrobe and not a built in closet :)

I can put furniture in both rooms, but my sister will come back to visit (& which ever room I'm not in will be the guest room) and I'm afraid she may look through all my stuff lol... But that could work!

I think the chest of drawers is too high to fit under the window, unfortunately...

Current Room: Would your dresser fit by your bed? (the dual purpose idea)?

SISTER'S ROOM: Couple of things to try (I don't have graph paper so I am free handing!):

1. Dytecture's plan, only place your bed in the right hand corner at a 45 degree angle. This will give you access to both sides of bed (easier to change sheets!) Hang a great chandelier in that corner over bed.

OR:

2. Use the wardrobe to slightly divide the room by placing side of it against the right hand wall, but face it to open towards the window.

You will need to leave about 3 ft so you can get back there. Place a full length mirror on the small right hand wall between the wardrobe and the window wall. In the other corner put your chest of drawers.

Put the head of the bed against the back of the wardrobe. May have to dress up the back of the wardrobe with some paint or wallpaper! Or, looks like wardrobe not quite the size of the bed (smaller?), hang sheers behind bed.

May have to pull the dresser closer to the door for easier access to the window area..... Like a said, no graph paper here!

Dytecture, what do you think? I am technology challenged and can't upload sketches!

Rosie, don't know if this will fit, but I am taking your large wardrobe and using it as a room divider to shorten that long narrow sister's room. Creating a dressing room space on the window side by having the wardrobe open that way, have chest there and a mirror.

Might be a very bad idea. But maybe someone can draw it out for you!

PS: Might want to "flip": put dressing area at the beginning of room. That way you will have the head of bed against the wardrobe and be able to look out your window. But that narrow room is a real puzzle!

This looks good on paper but it will have to actually work in true life adventure, things may have to be moved a foot here a couple inches there, and this is not a perfect solution but in order to have perfection you would have to have custom furniture made and that is probably not going to happen. in the new room, I would put the bed in front of the window and install a wall to wall sheer curtain in front of the window. this curtain will act as a backdrop for the bed, but still allow light to come in. Take a look...

I also don't know how to put this on paper for you on this site. Could you please tell me the true width od new room? The angles athe door area don't tell me. In other words what is the width of the window wall? I am drawing it out as I type. :))

What size is your bed, wardrobe, etc. A double or a queen. At first thought I sure wouldn't give up the comfort or a larger bed for a daybed...unless that would be comfortable for you.

The width of the window wall is 8'7" :)

Um, the bed is just a double - I don't know really what a queen size is - I don't know if we have those in England or not lol. It's measurements are Size W145, L207, H97cm.

The wardrobe is Size H180, W141, D53cm.

The chest of drawers is Size H94, W106, D40cm.

The dressing table is Size H74, W140, D58cm.

Rosie, Glad you like it (which ever idea I put out there (a few!).

One thing I wanted to pass on to all. We once had our bed sit up at an angle, 45 degree, coming out from corner that was next to a window. I could lay in bed at night and look out at the stars. It was also while Hale Bob Comet was visible. It was wonderful!

When it comes to furniture placement, I find you just have to move the stuff around to really see what works. Sometimes a couple of inches here or there just makes all the difference! (ps: furniture sliders available at home stores!)

PS again: Charmean: Great idea of putting dresser at end of bed. I did that with my son's desk and it worked out well.

I drew up to scale both rooms and actually like the larger room. I don't know how to show you the lay out. Thanks for the dimensions. (I had to convert to feet since I'm an Amazonian). Anyway First, draw it out on graphic paper instead of hauling the furniture around, it is so much easier. Normally putting the bed at an angle takes up so much more room that I often can't do it but in this case it works, in my opinion and looks great!
So, as you enter room in area to your left there appears to be just enough room for your wardrobe. Then as you stand at the bottom of your bed put the right hand top corner just in about the middle of the window angling it towards the door. It won't be a ful on 45 degree angle, just enough to position your dressing table against the left wall. I put it about 21 inchs or 2 feet away from the wardrobe. Whatever works for your doors. This still gives you a little room to manuever , for making your bed, to the left of the bed when needed.. I would place the dresser across from the table a couple feet away from door opening. This is all tight, granted but looks interesting and spacy to me, at least on paper. The bed corner in the middle of the window gives a sense of planning and simetry. You actually could do the whole wall in a sheer but also could just dress the window maybe in an up down interesting shade, bamboo or something textural and if you want a soft swag at the top in a great fabric to pull some color up to draw your eye. You could place a tree, (ficus, maybe), or something architectural or sculptural, tall behind the headboard. Use your vertical spaces, anything to draw your eye up. Put a tall mirror at your dressing table. You really even have room with this arrangement to have a pretty good sized round table on the right side of your bed and even a tall, 12 inch deep by 2 or 3 feet wide bookcase a foot or so away from the window wall on the right side of your room. If you do things to draw your eye up, the room will feel more spacious instead of focusing on the furniture area.

Vicki, glad you liked the angled lay out. I should have mentioned it doesn't have to be at 45 degrees. 30 degrees is fine! (But not sure if you are talking the more square room or the more narrow space)

And it is funny you mentioned a plant behind the bed since it is exactly what I did: found old extra round table, draped with table cloth and added tall palm. Did an up light next to it to throw great shadows on the ceiling!

And, when it comes to moving furniture around a room, nothing stops me. I once single handedly moved a queen sized bed and six foot long dresser (with attached hutch) to different walls while hubby was out fishing. If I can move a piece of furniture one inch at a time, I can move it! But doing it on graph paper would be easier....

Rosie, had a project to get wrapped. In answer to whether a daybed would be long enough. I have a client with a 6'4 son-in-law that sleeps on her guest room daybed. My feedback from him is he sleeps well on it. Whatever you do. Remember this is your room. Have fun!!
