radiator/furniture placement issue

I am finally moving to a great new house, however the room that I am impressed the least is the front room.

My dilemma is where to put my furniture! The room used to have a fireplace which has been closed up, but it means the rooms isnt square and i have a huge TV unit which I can put against one wall, but then I struggle where to put the sofa because there is a radiator on one of the two only walls I can use to put either the big TV Unit or the sofa.

I have attached a pic of my unit - please excuse the mess im in the process of packing all my stuff!

If someone could please advise me if it save to put the this unit - which a gap of course - on the wall that has the radiator?

Many thanks for all those who can assist me in regards to fire hazard, but also in the DESIGN of my new front room! :)

Staffing, the tv unit is overly large and looks like it may be a clutter magnet. If the tv is a plasma one put it on a table one side of the window so the sun doesn't shine on the screen and dispose of the unit.

Yes its very hard to keep it clutter-free, especially when you dont have much storage stuff in the flat, for that reason its hard for me to get rid of it tbh. But I might get rid of the far left column of the unit, it may fit better in the front room. If im not happy with it I'll dump it! I think I would attach the TV to the wall right in the middle where the fireplace used to be.

I am not crazy about radiator covers as the laws of physics dictate that you are reducing the efficiency of the rad' by interfering with its ability to convect. A small portion of a rad's heat is actual radiation so they are misnamed. However, if you do make or install a cover, make sure to put insulationwith a reflecting surface behind the rad, if wood or MDF use the thinnest you can get away with as wood is and insulator. Finally, to offset the reduced convection,providing the minimum temperature of the rad is 60 Celsius, you could get a little help from a stove top fan ( normally used on solid fuel/wood burning stoves) like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VonHaus-3-Blade-Heat-Powered-Wood-Burning-Log-Fire-Burner-Stove-Top-Mini-Fan-/272500990777 , build it into the cover facing outward. The heat is turned into power for the motor via something called the Peltier- Seebeck effect, so no wiring or batteries just the heat from the radiatorto run it.

Hello :) We have now plastered and painted first coat of white paint.. now deciding on the type of tiles.. we like the idea of Moroccon style tiles on the floor.. but as the bathroom is pretty narrow.. having a feature on the wall is a bit akward.. Our bathtub will be on the right and toilet under the window (same position as old layout) as all plumbing is already there. Unsure whether to have a concealed cistern toilet unit which can make the area look neater.. But I can't seem to find a good quality looking concealed unit (floor to under window measurement 98cm) width available is 50cm..or should i just go for a standard normal toilet. On the right after the bathtub we will have space for a double vanity sink unit.. opposite wall have a vertical stainless steel radiator... Unsure whether to go for a towel warmer or a vertical radiator? The bathroom will not have underfloor heating. Room dimensions are (length 335cm width 125cm) Any design ideas etc will be appreciated. Decor Books That's a wonderful radiator cover. Where is it from? Others in this stream have said that radiator covers reduce the heat in a room but I've heard others say it doesn't - the issue is that it takes longer to heat up a room. On that basis, I'm tempted to cover a radiator in my sitting room as even if I paint it it's intrusive and I could really do with the shelf above it to add interest below pictures.

They are fascinating to us! LOL. Firstly, I would say 900 BTUs isn't that significant to be honest, it is only 300 Watts (3 lightbulbs). So I am surprised the room is feeling cold. Therefore I would recommend that you get your heat outputs double-checked first. We can do this for you, just give me a call on 01274 515734 or email helena@featureradiators.co.uk. Then we can see what we come out with and say whether we think it is worth you getting a bigger one. Also is the radiator getting hot all over? Just to check, as if it isn't then it hasn't been installed properly and will need tweaking to get it up to full temperature.
