Two differenct shades of brown leather in the same room?

Hi,

I have a small Victorian terrace house with the typical 22ft long, narrow living room.
At one end I have a solid oak dining table with dark chocolate coloured chairs. At the other end will be the sofa which I haven't bought yet.
I have chosen leather for it's durability and easy cleaning as I have a dog. I have picked a sofa based on looks, comfort, fillings etc. It comes in a choice of leathers.

My question is, can I have two different shades of brown leather in the same room? I don't want them to match. The walls will probably be white and I plan on having a white or similarly neutral coloured fabric wing back chair by the sofa next to the fire which will kind of sit between the two items in question.

I (think) I have posted a picture of the chairs and the two possible sofa swatches side by side.

This is my first house, I 've never had to decorate before!?

I like the idea of having 2 different shades but make sure they are not extremely similar as of the fact that when people look at them both closely they will think you have stained them.

These additional pictures might help. the oak tv cabinet is destined for the dump. The white built in cabinets will go across the whole of the wall the tv is on now from one wall to the other. In the process they will swallow up the existing built in cabinet and the sticking out bit of wall where the room was extended at some stage in the past. the room is horribly bland at the moment. I hate it.

Hello christjne, I am just getting a few images for you.. Hold on.. Oka do some that are rather good.. Also their faux flower collection is really good. This one is from them and also their velvet in Porridge and Pale Sage could be nice along with Mole colour and Caviar is one they have too that would work possibly... .. There is also the option of throws and they have one in Mole and you could also think of stones and other shades of earthy tones... Group with 1 plain mole colour to give accent but I'd say 1 of each together on 1 or 2 sides and a throw or two for the sofa.. You may find some others you like too.. They also have Mirrors and the Cesario large could be very nice, it has a nice bevelled frame with dark wood and accent of gold that would be gr8 with the dark sofa.. All depends on budget as I have many more suggestions including antiques but for something under the one roof as it were... : ))

Hello, think I would go with the plain neutral colour curtains or a blind. Has the same problem with colour of sofa, it looked mid brown in shop, but when it turned up looked really dark. Also have a beige carpet. At first had beige walls but now are painted white, looks better, with one wall brown and beige patterned wallpaper from Osbourne and little (its beautiful but too grand for our semi). Have got one old red leather Ikea chair, which I quite like with the brownsofa so have 2 faded red cushions on sofa to tie in scheme. Medium grey rug suprisingly goes with everything! The wooden bookcases make it more homely and warm. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but to me its cosy and comfortable!!

Hi, thanks for replying. My question was specifically regarding the leathers shown in the picture. Do you think either of them 'go' / are contrast enough? I'm not looking for them to look similar, I agree that would look like I attempted to match and failed
