POLL: Exposed brick - yay or nay?
Comments (32)I agree with Rennew Traditional Building Materials - it's not a question of what's 'trending' or 'passé', but of really paying attention to the existing building and marrying that with the sensibility of the future inhabitant. Some spaces suit the industrial treatment, some don't, and no-one should be forced to be fashionable. I can't help thinking of the old Bauhaus principle of 'truth to materials' though. If you find yourself faking an 'authentically exposed' surface, then something isn't quite clicking in your analysis of what's in front of your nose. Not that I wasn't once taken in by an entirely ersatz 'industrial' café in Paris once, which was not, as I'd supposed, a converted butchers! The convincingly-aged metro tiles were to die for......See MoreNeed help with the dining area in my kitchen
Comments (44)What a beautiful and perfect table you found! Hubba hubba - those legs are just gorgeous. Well done and thanks for calling out to me. As for the chair mix, I think four beige and two merlot would be lovely. I think you like a traditional look, so I'm a bit worried that you won't be happy with it. If the table will normally be smaller with four beige chairs around it and maybe put the two merlot ones on either side of the radiator cover/"console", then definitely do the mix. Mismatched chairs around a dining table are often all different or the same make and model in a multitude of colours or the same colour in different styles. Do a Houzz search and see if you can find your planned mix and if you like the look. If in doubt, get four beige and look at them for a while! You could tie the two chair colours together with little cushions on the chairs - maybe just on the two merlot ones. Both of these are too big, I think, but the colours are good. http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/reasonhome/product/pondicherry-flower-silk-cushion-cover http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/emmalonsdale/product/chit-chat-rectangular-cushion This one might be the right size: http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/jennysibthorp/product/lobster-pot-screen-printed-natural-linen-cushion I covet the table already so I can't wait to see him all polished up.......See MoreGrey bedroom, yay or nay!!
Comments (19)As far as flooring goes, you can get light colour carpets which are bleach cleanable. I have a grey feature wallpaper in my bedroom, but the other walls a much lighter colour. I did want white carpets but was concerned about going too light, so went for a pale cream instead. Had very thick underlay so it feels luxurious. Stains have so far come out brilliantly just using stain remover foam, including a spilled bottle of berry cider and brown tinted dry shampoo which accidentally emptied all over the carpet. Haven't even had to try the bleach yet. We have the same carpet in the children's bedrooms because it goes with everything and is so practical....See MoreHow to furnish open plan new build. Comments (20)You're welcome. For backsplash: antiqued bronze mirror could look good and isn't too reflective. I also love a lot of the tiles that you can find here, for example the one I linked to could look great: https://tilebar.com/phantasm-marble-tile.html Marble probably has to be sealed, but it's quite stunning and different. Not a canteen look at all. Browse through the selection they've got. If you only want something behind the hob, you can maybe afford to go for something stunning....See MoreAlisha E
