Is this dining table set too much for a smallish room?

Hi all,

Moving in to our new home on Thursday this week and we're looking to buy a new dining table and chairs for the new dining room.

It's not a huge dining room but it's will DT a 6ft table and chairs but maybe not much else. Have found a glass topped dining table which comes with chairs in a mixture of three colours. I like these colours and the dining room is next to the living room, where we were thinking we might need to introduce an accent colour like teal anyway (posted another thread about if the plans for our neutral living room would work or be too bland therefore needing to introduce a colour.)

What do you think of this set in the sized dining room we have - too much colour? Walls will be painted an off white and going to be laying a mid oak colour wood floor (darker than the table oak).

I'm scared of colour and getting it wrong so any comments welcome!

I think it's clear from the pics but the pic of the dark table is what the current owners have in the dining room.. The other pic is the one I've seen!

I think your choice is lovely, great colours, scale looks good and the glass topped table keeps things light.

Like it too, however - if you have a good electrician, you could ask him to install some plugs that connect to the light switch in the living room. In this way, you could have 2 floor lamps (or one floor, one table) that you'd turn on from the switch (like in hotels). If you buy some good wall lights (up-downs are the trend atm), keep the chandelier and have a couple of floor lamps, you won't need to 'infect your ceiling with acne' (an architect saying about ceiling spots) - but I'd go for it in the kitchen. The picture rail looks too high to me - it could be that it's in line with the window frame; if you plan on a big reno, you should consider lowering it or if you keep it, paint the space between the rail and ceiling in the same colour as the ceiling, not the walls. I saw the Kmart and assumed the US, I didn't realise they were in Australia too (also wondered why you were up in the middle of the night but had seen the baby's bottle!). You've posted on the UK houzz so shopping is still tricky :( Dip dye is a great way to transform chairs but I don't think it will work with yours, painting them all over might though, in a shade of green or dark blue. Alternatively (blowing the budget on a light and chairs) you could look at replica eames. You may also be able to find green or blue ones as I've just had a quick look but the legs on these seem to tone with the floor and table. Great apartment. I would agree with the previous comment about getting an interior designer on board, preferably one whom will pass on their trade discounts! I also agree with other comments re zoning, scale etc. I'd also decide what you want to do with the kitchen before looking at the rest of the room as it's a little awkward. I don't know if it would be possible to get a flue in the roof for a suspended log burner? Alternatively which I prefer (but would get a render done first!) is to have a double sided bioethanol fireplace finished in a polished plaster to add texture. I'm not sure what the 5 doors/panels are but could they be covered in a leather/shagreen leather again for texture and interest. You're lacking walls to add art so you could look at suspending double sided art from the ceiling (last pic just to give an idea!) or add sculptures on plinth/s or an art rug (if in budget Knots rugs do some fantastic ones). I'd also look at adding pendant lights. I'd also go for the same style blinds to what they have in place now. If you add lots of textures elsewhere then curtains aren't really needed and I'm not sure they'd enhance such a great feature. Perhaps look into solar window film to make the light more bearable and prevent fading? Does the balcony wrap around as potted plants would also add privacy?

I think they go well with the table. What about this as an alternative? I've got them in a formal dining room, they're from Lombok. I couldn't quite afford real wishbones and wasn't too sure of the quality of the faux ones around. Perhaps post pics of the living space though

The wood and glass table looks great. I'm not really sure about 3 colours of chairs in this space though,it may look a little busy. good luck with whatever you decide.

The pic with the colours chairs works so well as they are the only coloured things in that set - if you want them to be as stunning - I think you need to emulate the set - ie white walls and white floor ! If you go with the darker wood floor that you are considering - personally - I think it may loose a little of its Wow !
( will look fantastic with white plates !! And the three colours used as serving or side dishes /napkins etc )
