I love the warmth of this countertop. Is this the natural patina of the concrete or is this an added color?

I live in a appt complex that has concrete patios- all the common area are pairing a flat boringish grey. Our unit has essentially two exterior rooms, ie large patios. I painted ours sand colour on advice, as we are near the beach and from one patio, the biggest, there are views of the water. THE PROBLEM: it was a bad choice, shows all the regular build up from car exhaust and ocean airborne dust, plus our beautiful cactus planters weep a light brown colour when water, sort of staining the area (see photo). It not practical to have this wash down every few days, both for labour and water conservation reasons, so I want o repaint a darker colour to hide a Niger percentage of surface grim...but can't decide criteria to choose. Also dark will be hotter on foot after hours in sun BUT no one goes out in space barefoot be a use of ocean dust/ car dust anyhow....any advice how to settler on a darker colour?

The two sides of patio face ses and wsw and are not shaded. I’m planning on having the coarse cut bricks rendered when weather is warm enough which will hopefully finish off the modernising. As you can see there is an integral sort of verandah under the main roof which we have used lots for outside sofa and dining table. But, whilst the sett patio is very useful and really holds the heat, tbh I think they’re a bit ugly. Does anyone have any suggestions? What made me think of white concrete is I’ve really liked the snow covering the patio, but I’m open to other suggestions.

Hi Tani, Yes, you can do secret gutters with a GRP flat roof system. I have designed one for a project about to start on site later this month. Some screen prints of my details below. Basically, I'm proposing to extend the flat roof joist out so it oversails the wall by about 300mm and have the ends of each joist chopped out to create a recess at the end. This recess is lined out with plywood and timber blocking and the GRP roof membrane is then dressed down and sealed up etc. Your architect / technologist / designer should be able to show this on their large scale section drawing as shown below. We are going to tweak the detail a bit so the vertical sides of the gutter are sloped and not at tight angles but apart from that what is shown below is how it should be built I think. You need to make sure the secret gutter is large enough for the volume of water it will drain away. You will also need a special hopper detail for the rainwater pipe to connect into and this will probably create a step out. I also suggest you use a good quality GRP roof manufacturer and approved installers, such as Polyroof. They have good technical support and worth speaking to them for advice also. It's worth spending a bit of time on this now to get it right and priced up properly before any work starts on site. Hope you get something sorted. I'll be posting some as built photos on here in the near future.

Your doors are the same colour and design as mine. They are dove grey. I think an oak table and some colourful chairs would suit. The oak would blend with the flooring and then the colourful chairs would add a pop of colour. Lovely kitchen. Enjoy using it.
