Wall hangings

I've seen a lovely gold leaf round mirror which I will buy but just wondering if I can display it next to the wall which has a black frame rectangle picture. Will gold and black clash? Confused ! Sorry no pic yet

Black and gold go well as does other colours such as red

Thanks, I wasn't sure of the frames. I have an open plan kitchen/diner living room and the dining area is very small and thought the mirror would help make it look bigger.

Hi Yolanda - I'd change the stools, table and chairs, and swap the pendants for something in coloured glass or (personally) metallic, and change the cabinet handles from steel to brass/gold. Instant lift. Splashback-wise, try distressed mirror (suitably tempered and toughened) as it has loads of personality, bounces light around and is easy to clean. Then play with wall colour. Warm accents will stop the wood door from jarring so much (or paint it, if you can convince your husband). You have a lovely kitchen - will take very little to get it where you want!

I have lots of original artwork around my house (one benefit of living next door to an artist!). Some I've bought from craft fairs/antique shops, some from local auctions, I've found some in job lots and I have bought a lot of pencil or pastel drawings off Ebay - as well as those pictures I've bought from my neighbour. I've mostly bought the frames from Ikea or Ebay. They're not expensive or valuable, but it does mean that they're unique. But more importantly , I bought each and every one because I feel a connection to them. I only have one large mass produced print/poster in the house, it's on my bedroom wall and I can't count the hours I laid in bed studying it and puzzling & wondering about it - it's a huge framed print of 'In thoughts of you' by Jack Vettriano. I also have beautiful, framed, printed and embroidered silk squares going up the stairs. So I would say, cast your net wide to find pictures that you really feel something about or absolutely love, not just something that matches the decor or what a million other people have on the wall.
