Which cushions with a damask sofa?

I am not that keen on the fabric of this sofa but cannot afford to change it.
Any ideas what sort of cushions to go with it to tone it down a bit and make it look a little less old fashioned?
The wall colour is a dark olive green and there is a plummy coloured rug on the floor which I may change at some point.
Oak shutters in the bay window behind the sofa (just seen).
The fabric is pale green/beige, not easy to work with.

I love the sofa and duck egg blues would be lovely I think. Maybe with greys and possibly a pop of mustard. Good luck.

I would add some faux fur cushions in dark grey tones to add some warmth and texture

Think of hitting the pastel trend, so easy to change a look with cushions. Silk, in clear almond pinks, green and a slate one thrown in to link the grey. Look into your garden, bluebell blues and grass green with a pale grey. Have fun! Nice problem.

Hi Pannacotta, I think the etsy one may be unique rug store, they overdye vintage rugs. I really like the rug from westelm, will it be too modern though if you didn't like the JL striped one? What do you think of their Cadiz one? I can't decide if I like it! Colour for sofa cushions and make room more homely

Hi! To make things more homely I'd definitely bring some plants in. IKEA do some really great ones that help brighten up the room and make it feel lived in (I've included a pic of one of mine below). IKEA do also do some great decorative accessories like huge candles which would look great on the top of your coffee table. H&M Home also have some nice bits you could decorate the table with - like little pots for example. Definitely pop some scented candles on there too! Cushions-wise, your grey sofa means you can chop and change all the time! Thanks, should have said I have two small boys so need practical fabrics which can be washed, silk is lovely but bit delicate I think....

Like this: doesn't have to be velvet if you need washable. I think it would make the sofa allot more modern. Add a black lamp shade too? I'm no expert.. Just my suggestion.

I think velvet would look good but not sure about black. Perhaps an olive colour like the walls, but haven't seen any in that colour on my travels....

The black looks good in that room but the sofas are cream/taupe where mine is more green/gold if that makes sense?

Maybe also try a throw as pictured if you want to hide the damask. It's difficult to tell the true colour of the sofa but you could bring the olive green onto the sofa with touches of red, gold, putty etc

Thanks, will look at Loaf and will try some throws, I have a few here. The fabric is a mix between pale green and gold and I think red/gold/putty could all work. I wish I have opted for a plain cover, much easier to work with!

There is another maybe somewhat riskier option but I would put it out to houzzers for feedback.. You can paint sofa fabric with annie Sloan chalk paint. I painted a sofa just last week and it has worked really well however it is a french style bedroom sofa so quite firm rather than a squadgy one. My sofa was patterned and it took 3 coats to cover the pattern. It would be interesting to see if anyone has tried it on a similar sofa to yours with good results.

Oh I don't think I have the energy to paint a large sofa and the fabric is silk and linen mix so quite nice even if its not quite to my taste.

The Loaf cushions were the wrong size, I need 50x50cm.
Have you a photo of your painted sofa minnie? Sounds intriguing...

Yes I don't think I'd touch silk! Hopefully the throw and cushions will work. I'll look out for some in that size. My sofa needed recovering and I'm yet to find a material I like so thought I'd give it a go. It needs either repainting to match the room or I'll move it and add some cushions. Unfortunately I don't have a before and after shot but I'm quite pleased with it.

hi Pannacotta, you can work with what you have, don't lose heart. I have attached some cushion ideas that hopefully will work with the colours you have in your room already. There are lots of fabrics incorporating plum and green, prestigeous, harlequin, sanderson, villa nova. Add a throw to tie in with and this can act as a bit of camouflage. I would go with the plum against the soft green. hope this helps. Ps look at Dunelm they did have some good cushion covers in those colours and washable

I like the damask design, it's nice and I think now coming back into fashion. It's really difficult to see the true colour of the fabric from the photos. Those cushions above look really good. Another option is to get a sofa cover - then it won't matter if you're boys get chocolate and weetabix on it, and you'll have more options ?
