How do I style this bank of drawers?
Comments (15)Dear Pinklark, thank you for your advice and also for pointing me to the dark hallway articles. You are right, it is a dark hallway (it has no windows). My next post on Houzz was actually going to be about how to light this space. I am not a big fan of the existing lighting and I know it is a difficult thing to get right. I'll take some photos and see if I get great help on this too, given my experience so far, it seems like i can't lose! Ruthholstock, thank you also for your post (oval mirror - even nicer than round!) and also for trying to keep me clutter free. We are quite lucky as we also have a back entrance to the house which tends to accumulate the clutter, so I am hoping that we can keep this part of the house relatively clutter free. But let's see! Dear Mark Harrison, thank you also for taking time to post and also offer picture suggestions. I love them. However, what might not be apparent from the photo is that the drawers are original drapers drawers from c.1900 and I would hate to ruin them by painting them. I think I would prefer to swap them out for a less significant set if I went that route. But that is also an option....See MoreMy new room
Comments (44)My Mamma always said to me... "Don't let the bed bugs bite".. I always thought it was rather sweet (not that we ever had any mind you!) till I saw an under the microscope look at what we cannot see, as you can see them....... New mattresses don't carry these bugs.. Only need to be wary if it's an old mattress... Still we have microscopic mites and things over our entire bodies our skin is teaming with microbes... not to mention inside them... like our gut... but they are good for us! (mostly) Even the follicle mite.... our lovely eye lashes are teaming with life.... Gosh I do hope you're not squeamish! It's rather fascinating really... Comments (62)Hello fhparis I painted my 1980's fitted dark brown wardrobes a year ago. I was able to remove a shelf which i used to practice on and to get an idea of the finish i could achieve. Or indeed if i could do it. Your wardrobes are lighter in colour which is a plus. I mentioned the products i used in an earlier post. Dont underestimate how long it will take to do. I think i applied 3 undercoats and at least 3 top coats. It was well worth the effort and cost a fraction of buying new wardrobes. The pics show 2 sets of painted wardrobes. Best of luck with your project...See MoreWarming up our lounge diner.
Comments (28)Hello 81bec, Well you don't need a lot on a sofa.. I tend to group them in 1's or 2's at the ends rather than along... The only place I can go ott is on a bed.. I digress..but I did a count and found I have 17 including 6 pillows! ; ) ) I think you will instantly see an uplift there on the sofa.. Also re the art work... Why not consider making your own? Canvases could be arranged in sizes and configuration you like and painted to blend with the walls they sit on.. Or why not use your colour scheme... Duck egg blue block colour with an old silver edging.. This could be a lovely way to bring the scheme in and not breaking the bank whilst doing it.. : ))...See MoreEmmeline Westin
