Hmmm that would depend on the size of your chandelier and the size of your table and the height of your room/table as well. Also the height of the people in your household. Usually i would say aim that your chandelier is less than half the size of your table. If it is bigger hand it up higher. Else something about 90 to 110cm or 30 to 35 inches above the surface of your table.

Hi Sue, you have some nice space to work with. One thing I noticed straight away was that you have used navy as your primary colour in this room, navy often works best as a secondary colour. It may be worth replacing your rug with something more neutral, a textured grey rug would look nice. I've attached an image below of a living room also using navy blue sofas paired with a greyish rug and it makes a huge difference. Adding a small coffee table would then help fill that space in the middle and make the room feel more cosy. Finally I've noticed some curtains in the background, changing these out for some wooden venetian blinds would really help bring the room together (you can go for faux wood blinds which are cheaper and look near identical to real wood). I believe by making these changes it will really give your room a stylish and timeless feel and "make your space come to life" as you say. Put a good sized rug underneath a nice wood table and voila! Juuuust the right amount of wood. Make it a nice Persian style rug with dark reds if you really want the neighbors to be jealous.

A french or Nordic style painted table would look nice with the paper and chandelier with either upholstered chairs to add another texture or rattan. This one is one from crown french furniture. Add a rug with some pastel shades
