Marie, your room looks lovely. So nice to see a nice blend of new and old and interesting. I agree with the others to keep your fireplace. I am not a huge fan of grey but I see what you mean about the wall on either side of the chimney ... have you considered continuing the wallpaper across that whole back wall? The slightly darker background would also help the TV to blend into the background. You could also do something a little different and pick up one of the other colours ... a warm light green to suit the wallpaper would add some more life to the room (grey by definition is a 'flattening' colour re light etc. think if grey in nature ... heavy dead things ... mainly rocks/minerals ... good for grounding a room but not too much of it ... I'm not one for trends.) Grey and wood/brown are not great together so I would change the TV stand or paint it. I love the raspberry colour of your sofa, seems a shame to add more grey. Also a lively colourful rug and some original artwork on the walls will make it less matchy. It helps to add in some small flashes of random colours ... either in artwork, accessories or cushions ... a bit of pattern. With regards to 'lightness' also remember to balance the volume and age of things. The curtains look solid and quite heavy, the fireplace is solid as is the black furniture ... the chairs and table as they are off the floor as such, look lighter, the fire surround and light furniture covers also are lighter so it's a nice balance. When I bought new sofas I chose ones with legs rather than the type that went to the floor and it made the room look much bigger and lighter. You need both light and heavy / new and old ... antique/vintage/older furniture that's 'lived' tends to ground a room and new furniture lightens it so a balance of both works well. Hi, I think remove the fish tank in the corner and put a tall decorative lighting structure there instead and different objects on the mantel piece, i.e., a tall leaning mirror, or a round mirror to balance? Also, off set the display as it is too uniform, i.e., one bit in the middle, one either side, one either side of them its all a bit too "centralised". Group individual items more to one end to help balance better! Hope you understand that sentence! Also (sorry) the height of the light next to the tv doesn't work for me either, it needs to be taller or much shorter than the tv, also, changing them around, i.e. lamp next to curtains, may work better too? I love the lamp, just not there!x Or, a cheaper option, choose a branch from out walking, a fairly substantial piece that you could put behind the fish tank and branch out over the fire place, paint it white, fix to wall and decorate with small fairy lights. Doing away with the candles in the centre and then display the deer to the left of the mantle as you look at it? All merely suggestions!x

Hi I love the warm caramel colour on the walls! I think I would try to create an eye piece I.e softer headboard in maybe a tonal colour to the walls. I would also have a built in storage area where you have the chests in the triangular area, to maximise space/storage. A focal point would encourage the eye away from the window. As the space behind pillow area is limited, a bespoke/DIY headboard would work. I will look for photos, sorry I've not attached any yet. It's a good space to work with and the bed could be layered to look elegant and inviting.

Hi Alex - A brass or gold edged round mirror would work really well because your sideboard already has curved edges, there is a brass door plate which would work together with a mirror like the one below from West Elm, you can cheaper ones from Wayfair too. http://www.westelm.co.uk/metal-framed-mirror-circle-w1612
