What do you do with valuable 'clutter'??

My buffet needs some serious decluttering! Aside from the obvious things that have just been dumped here (wine, paperwork), most of these things have sentimental value and I like seeing them. But this is way too much to have on display in 1 space! I love ruthless decluttering, but these are all things I have decided to keep. Is there a better option besides storing most of it in a drawer??

I agree with most of the above and especially that you need height. At the moment, the only "story " that's being told is that the cabinet is your dumping ground. If you have sentimental things, they need to be "honoured" by having space dedicated to them, otherwise they are background clutter. If this is the space you have allocated to them, then never put your daily chores such as paper work and general dumpiing there. If you don't have space to spare and have to use this area as a dumping ground, perhaps elevating the sentimental to another level, as previouslly suggested with shadow box, or grouping the photos on the wall, or you could do a floating shelf above the cabinet to hold your sentimental items. I would make the shelf shorter than the length of the cabinet.
Then you can still use the cabinet top for the other items. If you group the items that belong together, so the wine, decanters and glasses on an attractive tray, they then look like they belong and tell another story and apppear as one item rather than five. If you really need the bench for the dumping site, perhaps get an attractive container with a flip top lid to dump them in or otherwise something attractive that groups the "dump stuf"f and contains it, that way it looks ordered rather than cluttered.
Less is definitely more, remove anything unecessary such as candles so that you can have some empty space.
At least this is an easy makeover!

I alternate what is on display. Keep the extra stuff nearby, potentially in the cabinet, and every week or month just swap out the items that are on display.

I have started moving displays around since moving into a smaller home. I culled quite a bit and only kept my most sentimental items and the ones I really love. There is an article in today's houzz stories showing some shadow boxes, seriously considering. All the paper bills (not that we get many paper ones any more) are filed in a drawer. So are car keys, wallets etc to keep clutter off benches etc. good luck ...you can do it

Hello Tom, Well I have to call my cat Bob to her spot on the bed..... which is half of it... Otherwise she wakes up in the middle of the night from the chair in the living room and wails.. if not the wailing... Shutting out as much light as possible makes a bedroom cosy for sleeping in, especially of you have a street light right outside your bedroom window. I also means a longer sleep on those bright summer mornings when the sunlight wakes you up before you are ready.

Have you thought about doing a collage frame of the family photos to one big pic to hang on the wall. You can have each photo in a separate window within the frames. You can buy frames with multi mount options from most stores like target, big W etc or you can get your photos custom mounted and framed. This is the best option as the framers are great at spacing and selecting mount colour options. Instant de clutter of your lovely sideboard.

I would suggest perhaps reframe you photographs with a black frame ( the frames can vary in size, shape and finish) and hang them on the wall above the buffet. Have a couple of glasses of wine and your favourite bottle, a small bunch of flowers in your clear vase and always work on less is more. Enjoy styling :)

Yes I would agree that the photos can be hung on the wall... the frames you have might even have the attachment on the back. Stick to a particular theme for what is on your buffet... so maybe one bowl of treasures, or a display of crystal carafes....
I think the empty crystal would look better with something in them. Maybe put a little lazy susan on one end or a tray and put all the wine bits on it, so it is a little drink bar spot?
Small knick knacks would look good in a shadow box, that can be mounted on the wall. Alternatively look for a small display case for your things...
I have a similar style buffet, it ends up quite cluttered too... my son likes to put all sorts of treasures on it, he has collections of nice leaves, pinecones, rocks, nice duplo creations he wants to save.

You need some height - start with a lamp on one end, wash all the crystal decanters until sparkling and group near lamp, use something as your third thing like a low vase of flowers/greenery in front. Position all your frames up the other end of the buffet in a group or better still, frame alike in single frames and hang on the wall. File away all the paperwork and wine bottles and put your wooden bowl on the buffet. Don't be afraid to leave some empty space. Here is a photo for inspiration courtesy of the thespiffycompany.com

For valuable clutter I would suggest possibly having some floating box shelves again in different heights and sizes and allocate a piece of your valuables in each of the boxes and making them a star piece. As I suggested earlier having the different frames could also work well alongside the floating boxes creating a unique wall feature :)
