Matt or Satin Lacquer (Wide Oak) Floors?
Comments (13)I bet they will look fabulous. Mine are just pine floorboards trying to imitate oak. So if you are happy with the existing tone (colour) of the board then you really want a clear finish on the oak in whichever finish you decide to go for. I know one product that has a totally clear finish but some do make the wood a slightly warmer tone so be aware. Personally, I would choose a finish you think looks good, and that is the easiest to maintain. Ie matt/satin matt is more forgiving (shows less scratches) and is considered more contemporary at the moment. A slight sheen does look good as I consider very matt flooring to be more in keeping with a traditional property. If you have a local flooring showroom, have a look at the finishes they have on display as it will be a lot easier to decide what you prefer when it's not your own floor yet....See MoreEngineered wood floors. Comments (16)We have engineered wood all the way through our house and I don't regret it. We get the odd scratch but overall its ok. It also looks lovely and is natural. Ours is a pale smooth matt finished oak, so probably the most likely to show up marks. I agree with FloorMonster and get something brushed? We also got loads of samples from Natural Flooring as they had some really nice finishes that would be able to take the wear of the bike and the dogs. Something like the brushed engineered wood in the second picture down? This also tells you how to look after it....found it while we were trying to decide what to get. http://www.yourhomerenovation.co.uk/expert-advice-everything-need-know-engineered-wood-flooring/...See Morehardwood Vs engineered wood flooring
Comments (17)I actually buy my flooring from a company in Romford, so this works out lovely. Their name is wood floors and accessories (WFA) If you let them know Rob Jones from RJ Flooring told you to get in contact - they will look after you. Any issues, let me know and I will help any way I can. Their products are the best around and they have a show room ect so you can see what you're buying and how its made https://wfa.uk.net < thats their website, every one there is really helpful....See MoreAdvice - Oak engineered wood flooring - fading
Comments (17)Hi Hu, Definitely looks like the sun/uv has warmed the oak up, like with most natural woods they will change colour over time. You could consider oiling the floor lightly on both sections but concentrating mainly on the lighter area as this will darken the wood slightly. I would suggest sanding if it was a solid oak floor, however as it's a 3mm solid (I'm guessing on this) I wouldn't risk sanding it. Definitely consider oiling it and if possible I would remove the rug for a while especially on brighter days to allow the colour to even out. I hope you are able to sort it.
