I have a south facing kitchen with high gloss cream units and a black worktop. The only thing I would say is when the sun hits the room you see every spec of dust or finger mark on the cabinets...not great with my dog and 2 year old! But I'm having cream gloss blinds fitted this week which hopefully will keep the dust down. I also think the cabinets somehow 'attract' dust...must be a static thing maybe?

I think most of this design is on point and works perfectly for the effect you want. It just needs something to soften it and probably help with acoustics. I would go for a panel curtain on the door. White if you want to keep the clinical type look, but a warm grey would be lovely. Nothing ornate. It will do wonders and feel much more homely and inviting. All the best, Gina

Hi Suzanne, The stairs i had in the drawing were my version of what i thought it would look like before we got formal drawings from the architect (bit of cut and paste of existing plans). I do have an updated version he did i'll post here. However on this plan the bay at the back of the kitchen is too narrow and we haven't got the side windows shown in the kitchen etc. The stairs i had shown have a half landing. Our current stairs have 2 quarter landings. The stairs only go up 1 floor - 15 steps (15th being the landing level). We are also constrained by some eaves so the steps can't come up directly onto the landing by the wall due to head height issues - i have shown this with a red line. Happy to consider any stair variants you mentioned. I will take a look at stairbox.com thank you. The hall is approx 7.5m by 3.5m if you include the utility/coat cupboard area in the overall space. This is a beautiful house, I would definitely spend time considering your choices. Do you know when the house was built, can you check the title deeds? It looks Edwardian to me. Personally I think with period houses it is best to keep the facade as was originally intended and if you prefer the contemporary look apply that to the back of the house. Please keep the brickwork at the bottom, it’s a lovely feature and I’d be concerned rendering over could create damp issues. If the house is Edwardian the window frames would have been originally white. I live on a street with houses just like this, most of them have thankfully kept the original facades. One was modernised in the 90’s with mahogany windows and fully rendered and one was modernised a couple of years ago with black windows and grey render. They both look awful and stand out like a sore thumb! Best of luck with your project, I’m sure it’s all very exciting!
