Replace Conservatory?

We moved into our house 5 years ago, and while generally pleased with the layout, a good sized conservatory off our dining room is not ideal....too hot in summer, too cold and almost useless in the winter. We are considering replacing it with a conventional construction, similar footprint, single storey but remove more of the dividing wall, obviously part of the original outside wall. At present there is a doorway, and an original window into the conservatory. We would appreciate your thoughts, ideas...and a ball park idea of cost, please? Thank you.

It's West facing....and 12ft deep by by 13ft wide, with glass on 3 sides....

Sounds like you'd benefit from it all ( playroom and utility room too ) being drawn up and worked on with someone who will spend time working with you to get everything so it totally fits the bill ... If you have committed to one supplier, then ask for a good long appointment with their design team - or if you want to shop around - consider working via email with a freelance designer ( like me ! Sorry for shameless plug !) who can draw everything up and show you options discuss everything that you are concerned about and offer years and years of experience etc etc etc

That is a good point. I have thought of staggering the line at the back. Unfortunately that would not work with our garden as we have limited space at the back and the extension would shade a large area. The current living room is small and I am concerned we are creating a long narrow room. We have got used to the cosy space but when the family return home it is too small. The living room at the front will be more a snug/office space when we are finished. I am attaching some photos of the current room/conservatory.

We replaced our conservatory a few months ago. The old one was double glazed but it had been there 20 years. The new one is exactly the same size (about 12ft x 12ft) but what a difference. It's really well insulated so no condensation. I love it.

Sorry missed a bit out. Ours cost £12k, it leads off our kitchen. Blue glass roof (hardly noticeable) so not too hot in summer and not cold in winter.

Hi Christine, The existing conservatory may just need upgrading. You can get some very efficient glass now for the frames and also the roof.
