Seaside atrium

Advice greatly appreciated: any suggestions for new steel technology for building a glass atrium in a beachfront home in high wind/sand/salinity atmospheric and meteorological conditions? Architect is insisting only wood or aluminium but the "look" involves thick beams and is so overbearing as to render the atrium pointless.

    Wonder if the houzz team could move this to "design dilemmas" rather than "using houzz" question section ,?!?!
