Hi, how big is this kitchen?
And how much it costs and is there fridge?

Hi

The total cost for the kitchen was approx £40k with all Gaggenau appliances (including fridge) excluding VAT.

The space for the installation of the joinery was 3500mm long by 2300mm wide.

hi - with this new door configuration it opens up further possibilities - safety wise it's best to move your hob in from the edge of the island - so pan handles are less 'knock able ' designing to suit rooms is ok - but much better to design to suit the people using the room too ! to do this effectively a good designer will need to find out as much as possible about you and the members if your family - how you cook/ shop how often you entertain etc etc it takes time and when done well provides the best results for the room. this is what I do for a living - I don't sell product - purely design !- so instead of offering 'free design ' like studios do ( then making margin on the products you buy) - I charge a fee to design and then you shop around and get the best deal saving much more than the design fee in the process ! so you can see with this in mind - I can't design it for free for you on this thread - but happy to take it further in a professional capacity if you want to drop me an email ! ( nb we are concept designers who can take on whole houses too - so could look at the project in entirety too if needed - as what you do with each room has a knock on effect on the next ! ) kind regards Karen OnePlan

Sadly I have to agree with the comments about the poor energy efficiency standards of new housing in the UK - they're criminally low in the first place and sometimes aren't even adhered to properly, which can make living in them expensive, miserable and unhealthy. Historically energy conservation hasn't been an issue as so much of our housing, particularly social/council housing, was built decades ago when energy was plentiful and cheap and hardlly anyone thought about the effect on the planet. On the other hand, the UK has a rich architectural heritage which comes in part from the mix of housing and thanks to the efforts of the conservation movements which arose from the threat of bombing in the C20th wars and then the possibly even worse vandalism of the 1960s town planners! Reading and Glasgow suffered terribly at the hands of the planners but happily now many - though far from all - historic buildings across the country are loved and protected. We're fortunate in the UK not to have a mindset of 'new is better' so bulldoze the old, but there's always a place for innovation and making old houses comfortable and efficient places to live in in the C21st. *gets off soap box*

Which Size Dining Table?

Funnily enough I looked into this in quite some detail recently. We also needed a new table, and in our situation, most of the time we are 4, but then we are a family of 6 for weekends and holidays, and every other weekend there's just 2 of us. Added to this, from time to time, when we have visitors we need the table to seat 8-10. Having sat down at dozens of tables in-store, and having looked at probably a hundred on line(!), it seems that one should allow 50cm per person (excluding any table leg). You also need to bear in mind that you cannot sit people comfortably on the ends if there are people going right to the corner on both sides. So generally I think a 150cm table is insufficient for regularly seating 6 but 160cm is ok (2 each side and 1 on each end). That said, I think 180cm is preferable (you can sit with room to spare with 2 each side; or 3 each side). 180cm also allows 10 if the table legs are well located on or near the corners, or the legs are central (e.g. like pedestal legs). Because you can have 3 on each side and 2 on the ends. With longer tables, watch out for table legs that have a support beam running between the legs close to the floor. I found that those can prevent people sitting comfortably on the ends, because they cannot pull their chair legs under the table. The supports are also a nuisance if you are pushing end chairs under the table when not in use. If you decide to look at extending tables, consider carefully the way that the table extends, there are half a dozen styles of extension with various pros and cons. We eventually went for a 180cm table, that extends to 220cm. It has a "split-frame" extension so that table frame extends (not just the table top). This means the legs always stay on the corners (nobody has to sit with table legs between their legs) and the 40 cm extension leaf is stored in the centre of the table.

Yes, much better :) I like the utility opening up from the kitchen. I agree with CWD about converting that window (EDIT: in the new utility room) into a door. Maybe a sliding door, if possible, to save space on the door swing. I also agree with generally converting existing doors into windows, and window into doors, where suitable. I also don't think it makes sense to keep the old larder/WC. The location and dimensions aren't practical and it interferes with getting an optimal kitchen. As for the hob, it isn't nearly as practical, clean, or safe, on the island as having it against the wall, especially given such a spacious kitchen! I might consider a "prep" sink on the island to get a comfortable Fridge->sink->hob work triangle, although two sinks require more plumbing and maintenance than one. The fireplace on the original plan, is that still there? Or are you planning to remove it? I do like how you positioned your dining table with the bench against the wall.
