Under stairs dilemma
Comments (2)Congrats on the new kitchen! It looks great (as much as I can see of it) and I love the wood (oak?) you've chosen and those gorgeous doors. That's a good space for a pantry, as skr01606 suggested. You can go two ways, either for some classic shelves or for pull-out drawers (both would need to be custom made, unless you go for that system of boards on adjustable brackets (like in 2nd pic). Now, if you choose shelves, you could first leave enough space for the dyson and build shelves around it. To use both sides, one could have 'normal' (about 20cm) wide shelves, the other side narrow, spice rack type. If it was my space though, assuming you have enough storage in the kitchen (that was supposed to be a loo, right?) I'd have a 'wine cellar' in there. Sort of like the last photo, but smaller :)) Hope this helps, good luck! PS: You can image google 'under stairs pantry' for more ideas....See MoreStairs dilemma
Comments (28)I painted the stairs all the way across as it was just as quick as trying to paint just the edges. I had intended to add a runner but liked the look so much I haven't done. The bottom two stairs are curved and I couldn't work out how the runner would sit over them. I used floor paint but it does need repainting every year or two, so it's not the most practical solution....See MoreHallway under stairs area
Comments (13)Hi Marie! I think you have such a lovely space underneath the stairs, that it would be a shame to just put a console table there. The costings to get a carpenter to build a simple but effective display unit (see below) will probably be around £200-250. I think it would be great to use that space below to add something a bit more exciting, and you can add lovely bits of decor to make it even more wow! i.e vases, statues, plants etc......See MoreHelp! Comments (11)Ring Ring :) I did not want to mention that......but it is effectively a protected route under the BR and a means of escape, where all rooms off of it should have a 30 min fire rating segregation from the protected route. i.e the hall and stair. Turning it into an open plan office well ....where would one start? One should not really start to label it as an office without it being segregated or partitioned. I believe the fire officer would say , if a fire started at that point it would hinder egress and compromise life safety, so would either ask for a sprinkler system ££ to be installed or a fire shutter £££££ or additional wall and Fire door...£ One could do some really cool things with the stair going up to the top floor, if it is kept straight and simple. The geometry of the stair, aligns with the party wall, is simple and clean ... Moving the door to the bedroom ( further down the corridor ) will provide the future flexibility one suggest next to the window. and a window seat could be introduced with LL enclosed storage under it later. This part of a house is circulation which can be enjoyable, practical and safe . It's not the best place to use as storage or as an office....See MoreCatherine Hounslow
