Kitchen help - what can we do to make it look better?
Comments (65)Depending on how far you budget goes, I would look at adding traditional cornice and pelmet and replacing the plinth with a similar oyster colour. End panels for wall units could also be replaced / added. Some chessboard style tilling in 3 colours would also bring out the walls. It's hard to tell but is the oak surround also on the wall units? Comments (13)Hi Dean, fingers crossed you are correct re the listing..however I'd suggest you double check on britishlistedbuildings.co.uk Also......remember that there are other aspects which might still restrict what you can do, for example if you are close to another listed building and/or in a conservation area. So regardless of if it's listed or not my strong advice is to speak your local planning team before you proceed. Nearly everyone on this thread has said the same, that it's better to have an upfront conversation. Every local area is different and you might find something useful/encouraging/terrifying from speaking to them. It might help you on house price negotiation too. Come back and tell us if your offer is accepted.... A-M...See MoreBefore & After: Grade II Listed Georgian in Islington, London

Comments (17)Looks good although I have a few comments/suggestions: 1) 1300 doesn’t seem much for an ironing board, ours is 1700 2) Cleaning products are going to be a pain to reach Suggestions to fix these problems 1). Make all the shelves less than full depth, ie 450 deep, then you have space to hang the ironing board on the back of the door. 2) Put bucket and laundry basket (large lightweight items) up high above the microwave and cleaning products down low instead. Another suggestion: I have seen pictures of a pull out rail for mops, brooms, vacuum sticks like this one https://www.simplygoodstuff.com/store-n-slide.html. I can’t find one available to buy in the UK, but it should be fairly easy to make one by buying a non sliding mop/broom wall rack and attaching it to a drawer runner, and then screw the runner to one side of your tall slim space. This will make it much easier to access your mop etc and means you can get away with a slimmer tall space and wider shelves....See MoreTani H-S
