What's the best flooring over undefloor heating?

Really stuck on what flooring to use in our home . We want one type of flooring throughout.. Either

A. Engineered wood
B. 60x 60 beige tiles
C. Wood effect tiles

Wood effect tiles seem like a good compromise. But I haven't seen it laid in a house

In terms of conducting heat, the tiles will be slightly better but the wood will also allow heat to eminate through. Just make sure you check with the suppliers that the tiles / wood are suitable for use over underfloor heating.
With the wood, you may need to lay a suitable membrane beneath it.
The engineered boards will need to be fitted with expansion gaps and any tiles fixed with flexible adhesive and grout to allow for expansion and contraction with the heat.

wood can be used, however, for starters, wood is a great insulator, therefore you would have to consume more energy before you feel the effects. tiles or wood effect tiles would be my first choice

Underfloor heating is lovely underfoot - but do remember - with all those shiny surfaces - You might find it could be quite echo'y !! Consider a rug in the soft seating area or dining area if you have one . It's a good idea to plan not just the kitchen - but the whole extended room - as one affects the other at the same time. Think about situations like if the kids and their friends are all on the stools at the island anyone wanting to get past will have to shimmy past you working at the sink - and if the DW is open this might be even more difficult ! In such a big space all of a sudden you can see things have got a bit tight ! Also, large drawers are great for storing stuff in - and although they cost more than cupboards - they are much easier to use and see what's in them etc consider having lots more of those ! Hi, Engineered wooden floors are available in various thicknesses (plywood layering) and quality specifications. If you're intending on using underfloor heating it is best to speak directly with the supplier to ascertain if you should/not use this in conjunction with underfloor heating to avoid any potential hazards. If the tiles are on top of screed there shouldn't be a huge concern about damaging the pipes as they should be at least 30mm below the surface. As long as whoever removed them takes care not to dig down into the screed you should be ok. Consider leaving the existing adhesive down if it is well stuck, you can use a levelling compound over this to smooth out to them re tile if you have enough space to build the floor up.

I am about to have electric UFH by ukwarmfloor.com - a norwegian system that has been around for ages over there. ( I do not work for them in any way!) Running costs are MASSIVELY cheaper than our versions. Over there, they instal the mats under roofs, drives and on the decks of icebreakers - they know a thing or two about snow and cold, and so I am giving it a whirl in my guest bedroom and large en suite. This is a response from the man answering all my many questions: "The system as shown would use a total of around 375Wper hour to keep all the areas heated to a constant 26C at floor level. By way of comparison the most efficient cable underfloor system would use 975W per hour to achieve this, whilst a boiler & radiator system would use 750W per hour. Comparisons in terms of BTUs can be a little confusing as most standard tables stating average BTU requirements for domestic situations are based on the heat output of traditional radiators etc. So our system only uses 375W (given as approx 1279BTUs in traditional thermal conversion tables)to do the job that a traditional boiler/radiator system would need 750W to do(given as approx 2559 BTUs). Our system is primarily designed specifically to produce the same air temperature in a room as other systems but to use less power to do so. The two basic reasons for this are: The heating element is self-regulating - only ever drawing the minimum required power at any individual point across the floor to maintain the set temperature. 2. The heating element heats the entire floor area and so effectively turns the whole floor of the the room into a radiant surface, heating the entire volume of air in the room from the bottom up. This is unlike radiators, which only heat a small surface, typically at the sides of a room, or a cable or piped underfloor system which can only heat thin strips of floor, leaving most of the floor surface unheated. Because our system heats the entire area it need only heat to 26C to produce effective air temperatures in the room. Other systems have to heat to much higher temperatures to do this and so require more energy to do so." I have spent an inordinate amount of time reading everything on their system, and I am going to use it. Hello Almanhome, If you are having underfloor heating I'd go with either stone or a floor tile from somewhere like Bert & May. They have a huge range, some of which should be compatible with underfloor heating. Stone and good tiles would retain the heat for longer-
