size carpet? Dining room table 2mtr x 60xm

Just don't know how large the carpet should be - ideally... This is, I know a very odd shaped dining table but suits our very long dining area - just want to know when people sit around this table how large the carpet should be so the chairs sit on to the carpet?

At least 80cm to 1m wider and longer than table will allow chairs to be pulled out etc without rucking up carpet.

Your local carpet shop should be able to cut you a remnant or off cut to size and have the edges whipped to form a rug.

Lost my internet this morning for some stupid reason so trying to catch up now. Talking kids and heights, my grands here are absolutely racing skyward at the moment. I'm 5'6" but all my daughters are taller than me - 5'8 - 5'9". My 15 year old grandson took great delight when they visited on Saturday to come straight in and stand over me. Said he had had a growth spurt that last week and he is now a full head taller than me. Then my 12 year old granddaughter had to join in as she is now 5'8". The 10 year old boy then had to give me a hug and he is almost looking me in the eye. DD reckons I'm shrinking. The 9 year old girl is pretty much a 9 year old but my daughter's partner's kids came too, his son is the same age and height as my 15 year old but his daughter at 8 is almost at eye level with me too. They so fill the house when they are here. At least is isn't as bad as when my mum was alive, she was only about 4'10" and everyone used to crowd around her and pat her on the head like the family dog. I don't have to try very hard to be fave grandparent, the others are hopeless, particularly the mother. She is very much a business woman and just isn't on kid level at all and very tight with money. I was just chasing curtain rods and fittings today - boring stuff - and found a pretty cushion that is done in a soft taffeta and absolutely covered in flowers of the same fabric. I can get it in red and navy - of course didn't have the pillow slip with me - so will have to go back and check it out. I really have a thing for the flowers. I haven't got to the fabric shop yet, can't remember what happened the day I was going to go, I'm really trying to get as much as possible organised for hubby to do before he leaves next week and then I have 2 blissful months to do what I want to do....... even better spend what money I like, heehee. It has turned so hot here again and really steamy making it even harder to get into things. Anyway back to your problem - 1 - did you try the chairs in front of the window as joan suggested? 2 - fireplace - I'm now going back three weeks ago to when we had the lounge in front of it so you could look out the front window and the TV in the front corner Why didn't we like that??? This is now true decorating, we are going round in circles. Just have to show you this too, while I was shopping today I happened on a fabulous table lamp I reckon I'm definitely getting for my lounge room to go beside the new entertainment unit (when I buy it) and beside the new TV (when I buy that too) http://www.freedom.com.au/homewares/lighting/table-lights/23355415/twisted-table-lamp-60cm-natural-finish/ It has a matching floor lamp too - the colour in the shade is more accurate. Hi Laure, I guess it comes down to personal taste but I'm a big fan of white painting everything, quite literally brightens my day, particularly in winter. And a white backdrop allows you to introduce colour in a more flexible way. So thumbs up for that. My recommendation would be (might be repeating what others have suggested already): 1) remove the carpets + sand and varnish/paint the floorboards underneath, if in a bad state consider lino/vinyl as an affordable alternative - either plain or patterned: consider painting the wooden shutters and fireplace 3) as most others suggested, browse charity shops, reclamation yards and Ebay for art, mirrors etc and not only look at what it is but also what it could be if you repurpose or paint it. Putting frames up in clusters is great, I personally prefer large canvas - with a bit of confidence you can create abstract art yourself 4) add flowers or potted plants 5) finally, lighting is everything. Go for indirect lighting, invest in multiple light sources and go for dimmers. From what I can tell the room's key asset isn't size but its comfy atmosphere - try to highlight that by working with a 'less is more' attitude. I would focus on lighting, flowers and one or two striking pieces. (-> Ignore my carpet comment, I read above that they're brand new) Good luck!

Hi Christian, Firstly, what a fantastic space you have created, with lots of light from the large windows and a fabulous kitchen/relaxing area, I love your sofa. I note that Beano kindly recommended Go Modern and we would love to help you choose some furniture for your amazing space. I see that you are thinking of a glass table, but larger than the one you already have and some chairs to go with it, as well as a rug, a couple of armchairs and a coffee table. I think the glass dining table that you are looking at is really nice and a good size for the space, but I wondered if you had considered a ceramic table top as this might also work for you. Ceramic is a new finish in a variety of colours which is smooth to the touch and looks and feels just like marble, but is incredibly hard-wearing and perfect for families or entertaining.
