Comments (22)I think the interior of the rooms can be brightened/tweaked with lots of different approaches. Here a few examples: Photo one: bright, zen inspired furniture, lighter flooring(terazzo/carpet/wood). Organic colours.. Photo two: same thing, notice the bed fairly close the window. You could do that by having a pony wall/installation behind the bed as in photo three. Obviously not in wood, since your ceiling has enough of it present. Photo four: if you keep the wooden ceiling you can create interest and break up the stripe monotony with an interesting/large fixture....See MoreRenovation of Victorian Mid Terrace House - Now Light & Bright!

Comments (16)We're really far from there too (south coast) but fortunately my partner works up north so he popped in on his way to Newcastle. To be honest, he only popped in to get an idea if quality in comparison to places like wren, howdens etc. The quality was definitely better (we went for the stanbury). We had builders in at the time so I just got them to measure then deducted 50mm from each side to account for uneven walls. Definitely research your fitter. We used our carpenter and to be honest he made the kitchen look really expensive. Would definitely recommend getting your worktops through them. They outsource to a stone Mason who comes and measures after the kitchen has been installed so you don't have to do this part. From measuring to fitting, worktops took 2 weeks. We saved about £1500 on silestone quartz by going through them. We haven't quite finished by here's some photos to give you an idea of quality x...See MorePerception of space and light during renovation
Comments (4)Hi Nathalie, I feel your pain as we are mid extension/renovation too. The extension seems to go from being super light, large and lovely, to somewhat gloomy and smaller in feeling. But one of my builders said to me quite early in the process that that's completely normal - the blockwork makes it look dark, then the plasterboard lightens it up, then the plaster darkens it again, then you paint it and it's lovely. So don't worry - I'm sure you will be fine. Do consider your paint choices though if you are concerned about it feeling light and bright. And as for space, get your tape measure out, draw it all out to scale and draw in the pieces of furniture to scale. Or in some cases you might benefit from laying out cardboard boxes in the space so you can walk around them and get a proper feel. Then you'll know for sure whether you have a problem. And know that there WILL be things you wish you'd done differently (I don't think it's possible to do such a big reno and not get a couple of little things a bit wrong), but I'm sure that on the whole you'll love it, as you sound like someone who has put a lot of thought into it all....See MoreBarn Light Electric Company
