Need help for disabled teens room!
I'd really love some help and suggestions about how to decorate my room, except here's where it immediately gets tricky - I spend 23 hours a day in my room. I am disabled and as a result have to work around that with my bedroom, on top of this, I also have quite a small room. My room is 9'0 x 8'2, but is an awkward shape in that there's only really two places for the bed to go, and one of those is blocking the window - something I want to avoid. I also need the bed to be against a wall unfortunately (this is because of my disability) and this leaves me with only one place for the bed to go.
I have done a room plan to help visualize how I intend the format of the room to go, this is not how my room currently is, everything in my room is being replaced. You may wonder why I only have a single wardrobe down, that is because I cannot reach up for my clothes so will have a chest of drawers that you can see next to my bed which will have the majority of my clothes in. I also have an assistance dog who needs to be able to navigate the room to assist me.
What I need help with, is picking a colour scheme and bedding, ect. I truly have no idea where to start. I have light sensitivity due to my disability which means my curtains are shut almost all the time, so this needs to be taken into account - the room receives no natural light. I have two small lamps which are used throughout the time I am awake, no overhead lights. I do not want white on every wall, but equally don't want a colour that is going to drown the room and make it seem even smaller. I have struggled to find pictures of rooms that are as small as mine to visualize colour schemes which is another difficulty. I have attached pictures of furniture, layouts and palettes that I like in the hopes you all may be able to help me. I have also attached the room plan.
Colours I like are mint green, gold, yellow, coral, dusty lilac/pink, but most of all I love the outdoors and nature.
Please help! Thank you so much in advance, I know I'm a complex bugger!! Feel free to ask questions if I haven't answered anything properly, and do not be scared of asking personal questions for fear of offending me, I understand that this may not be a straight forward case.

Comments (7)I feel your pain............or maybe your husband's. My father was disabled due to the loss of a leg and then a stroke many years later, leaving him paralysed totally on his left side. Thankfully there is a lot more choice nowadays for people with disabilities than there were in his day. Just because you're disabled, shouldn't mean that you can't have stylish bathrooms or mostly what happens....no privacy. Have a look at Living House they have a wonderful range of stylish and practical bathrooms Also:- Premier Bathrooms It might be nice if you have the room, to have a bath and a shower. Comments (6)We have a set up which is pretty good, I think: We have the Bette Ocean bath which has a large internal size, and one straight end, so is good for showering in. Any bath with fairly slim sides and one straight end should work. We have a glass bath screen that folds inwards flat against the wall. For this you need a screen that pivots 180 degrees (ours is by Matki iirc). Our shower head is mounted high up so the screen clears it. The bath/shower controls are on the other wall so not in the way of the shower screen either - also avoids the wet arm issue. Finally, we have a bath filler mounted on the side of the bath, so no tap to bump against. hope this helps...See More

8 years agoOnePlan: Hi, thanks so much for answering!! Yes, I was thinking so too, other ideas have been candles and low watt bulbs for lamps. No furniture ordered, no specific bed needed apart from no high beds. Budget, eh, sort of, but no specific idea, we aren't minted that's for sure! I would *love* a chair, an arm chair, next to the wardrobe [in the corner] but every chair I've put into the plan has really taken a large chunk out of the room. No TV, I use my laptop for everything. Dog does sleep on the bed, he's black and white [possibly the worst combo eh!] and he's a Springer, so not a huge malter, lighter bedding would probably be sensible. Absolutely fine! I didn't want to ramble in my original post but knew there were so many questions to answer. For the single wardrobe, I was thinking mirrored. For the chest of drawers, white I think, I've been looking on eBay for that. I love the chest of drawers I've attached a picture of. Would a taupe look too dark on my walls? It's funny really, I do art a lot and make money from it, so work with colours regularly yet cannot seem to figure it out for my bedroom!
CH Interior Design: Hi!! Thank you for responding! Forgive me, I don't quite understand what you mean. If you mean placing the chest of drawers at the bottom of my bed, then it wouldn't fit due to the depth, if you mean across the room next to the wardrobe, then that was a space I was planning on leaving free for a possible chair. I was thinking of keeping the walls fairly neutral so that if I ever want to change the colour scheme, I can do. I was thinking perhaps taupe, do you think that would be too dark? I love your colour scheme suggestion though!
If anyone has any suggestions on where I could get a chest of drawers similar to the one below, that would be fantastic.

8 years agoFirst, huge apologies for just abandoning ship! Due to one thing or another budget kept becoming an issue so I decided to postpone. It looks like the only way my room is going to be able to be done is if things are bought in stages, which is fine of course but definitely makes things slower.
I did finally buy a chest of drawers, I've attached a photo of it. It's weird, I don't usually like cool colours but it just fit in the spot I had perfectly and I just really love it. I'm a bit stuck though, I'm not really sure what colours (if any in particular, or whether it's a bit of a free for all) would go with this? It's blue, but very faintly so.
