Modern Wall covering (indoors)

I am so uninspired by the choices available! At the moment have only painted walls but on a program saw a really modern house that had wooden panels on the wall and it looked really good. My hallway always needs re-painting so would be ideal. However I do not want wood on my walls, nor do I want wallpaper so need to come up with something else. Any ideas out there? Thanks

To be honest there's not a lot of options:
Tiles
Wood
Paint
Venetian plaster
Metal
Plastic

plastic, metal and tiles aren't a common choice for obvious reasons

Hello Lynn, Well there are some papers out there that are very very unique... However the first thing to decide on is a budget for your project. Now without seeing the flavour of the house I can only give some suggestions. The hall is the entrance to the rest of the house, flat, apartment, so you want something that will compliment... So things to ask yourself first are... Does the hall have a lot of light or enough?... What colours do I like?... What sort of finish do I want?... Do I have lovely features?... (no not your porcelain complexion! ) : )) but skirting, dado, picture rail.. Do you want to break up the colours with that in mind? ie darker between skirting and dado with a lighter finish above dado to picture rail.. yada yada!

Do you have a certain style of furnishings in the hall?, as that is something to take into account possibly.... Fantastic places to look are Altfield... Now they do have a large section on wall coverings, which I think you may agree take you beyond paper into a whole new realm.. Silks, faux leathers and even stone. They are one of the companies that I have relationships with (trade) so I have looked extensively at their more interesting and unique range... Have a look and if there is anything else I can help with, let me know... : ))

Hello, thanks a lot for the valuable advice, the problem that the TV is situated internally in the wall i.e: no stones behind the TV as it was planned like that by the previous owner. We like the idea of dark varnished wood pieces, we decided to add a plant to the left and wooden shelf to the right. The main issue that we try to restrict ourselves with 3 colors, but we already have three built in, the stone wall, the floor is dark gray pvc, and the rest of the walls and ceiling are white. The sofa we want is below in a photo, and the chairs, the piece under the TV can be also varnished wood (all in Dark) the sofa color and dining table are the challenge. The chairs can be black leather. my husband insists on a modern look.

Year round pool in the UK? Indoors with adjoining sauna and south facing sliding glass wall / doors opening out onto a terrace with seating, tables, parasols, loungers, etc. for fine weather / summer use.

I think you should take a tip from Spas where they understand that too many watery colours are an overload. Consider adding a wood or stone covering to the wall and then take your paint colour scheme from that.

Walls are not insulated. Would assume I should make sure exterior vents are kept so moisture can escape from the cavity? There's been issues with walls sucking up groundwater, so to let that moisture escape somewhere. I'm going to have have to insert some damp proofing rods in several places. Cheers!
