New lease of life needed

We had been waiting but it's now clear our extension will go ahead next year, not this, and I'd like to revitalise our bedroom (which will be largely unaffected by the extension). The wallpaper and the carpet will be staying (close up shows the colours) but looking for inspiration for the other walls, curtains, bedding and lighting (there's also a central pendant, with a shade that matches the bedside lights). What would you do?! Thank you!

I say go for some swirls of blues and whites in this room! You could get a nice rug, some bedside lamps instead of wall fixtures and paint the walls either side white :) Hope that helps!

I agree with Tom, picking out the blues would be best. You could accessorise in the green, perhaps with bedside lamps, and bed cushions to pull it together. A retro style chair in the green in a corner would be good too. If you don't want to replace the curtains you could add economic blinds in blue or green. The whole room will look modern and light. Good luck post the finished work :-)

Hi Daniel What a lovely light kitchen! I see you have decided to change the worktop which is a good idea if you don't like the existing (temporary fixes always seem to stay forever in my house, much better to go for a permanent solution if it's within budget!) if you like colours I think the suggested mustard yellow would be good, or teal works really well with white and wood. Also, you mentioned tiled wallpaper, how about some real tiles? I have a new kitchen too, it has very pale grey gloss units and a white quartz worktop and white walls (at the moment, eventually I'm planning to paint them dark grey). It's lovely but a little plain like yours. I found some lovely tiles which are white and grey which sounds very dull. It they introduce pattern which really ties it all together. I think you could choose some tiles with a nice pattern (they don't have to be brightly coloured if that's not your thing). You'd only need 2 rows, not all the way up to the upper units, introducing some pattern could really bring it to life. And perhaps some coloured chairs when you get round to thinking about furniture? Also, how about hanging a picture on the wall below the wall unit above the washing machine? I love a picture in a kitchen! Hope this helps, enjoy decorating your new home!

Hi Debbie. I would go for a luxury vinyl tile in a wood wood effect such as karndean etc. I'm not sure which way the room faces and light affects colour so much but I might get testers of farrow and ball churlish green and cooking apple green which should work with the cobalt blue (you could just do a feature wall against the table). I'd look at an ikat blind combining both colours (have only had a quick look but something like the 3rd pic). Can the thing next to the toaster move so you can add a potted herb? Perhaps also some colour for canisters? I'd also add a few limes in the fruit bowl. You could also add a jug of flowers on the table, I'd go for earthenware (perhaps in white) to add texture and there are some good faux flowers around as an alternative. If you want more texture you can always drape a throw over one of the chairs

A simple search will highlight a range of prices from the best known online stores. Once the bulbs are installed, the bridge attached to the hub and everything connected via the app, then the fun can start! Home Automation If you already have a home automation such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit you can use voice controls to change your lights bringing a little bit of the future to your present day! If it's more than a simple "Alexa switch the lights on" command this may need a little bit of patience to set up. Using the camera on your phone or tablet and a third-party app such as Hue Camera for Philips Hue (Apple), hueDynamic (Windows), or Hue Matcher (Android) and your lights will synchronise to meet the ambience of whatever you are watching. If for instance, you are plunging into the depths of the Indian Ocean with Sir David Attenborough in The Blue Planet your app will choose the right shade of blue to enhance your viewing. What's more, when tension mounts your lights will change to help intensify the moment! It is even possible to control your ambient lighting when viewing off-screen photographs and paintings. Simply download your preferred app, run through the settings, and position your phone or tablet towards the screen or image. If you're having a party or are simply immersing yourself in your sound apps such as Ambify or Hue Disco use algorithms to work seamlessly with your music. You can also create colour themes for different genres. Without delay, working in time with your music your lights will change to the beat of your tunes! I would paint the walls a sail white or an apple white.
I would add simple plain full length islet curtains perhaps in green.
I would paint either the bed or the cabinets white.
I would dress the bed with a mid blue sheet, white duvet, green and white pillows. Then add a blue mohair throw and some cushions with texture.

I think that you have a beautiful wall paper that it is not given the attention it deserves. Considering you may be saving for the house extension, I would try to keep costs low:

- Change the little wall lights with these ones from Next (but hang them facing down so they look closer to the bed ) and center the bed right between them.

- Make the bedlinen match the curtains (no pattern in it, you already have enough on the wall)

- Make the curtains longer to get to just above floor level, by adding a band of blue or green fabric (matching the colours in the wall paper) at the bottom of the curtains.

- Finish it with a folded blanket over the bed and cushions on green or blue.
