How can i revamp an old bathroom suite?

I'm moving into a rented property and the bathroom is a really old fashion grey suite which makes the room look small and a bit dark. how can I brighten and modernise without changing it structurally?

Well at least grey is very fashionable now, if you have to work with a coloured suite, grey is better than most. Are you talking about changing tiles? If it needs brightening stick with white for flooring and wall tiles but you could paint the walls a yellow perhaps and put in a funky grey shower curtain. Yellow and grey are very popular at the moment.

I know you are reluctant to remove the mirrors, but I think you should. The same goes for the tiles. Get a good plasterer to skim the walks and then you have a good surface to paint white or off white. You should tile the long side of the bath wall and the end hear to the taps. White would work for the tiles. You might want to have them laid in a brickwork pattern to add interest, rather than the more standard grid pattern. See the pics of a couple of our recent refurbishments. No need for full tiled walls.

Hi Jane, beautiful vanity unit and tiles you have there! Excellent choice! We agree with colourhappy, a warm wood effect tile, maybe layed out in a herringbone pattern would work very well as you can see on the photo. It would be elegant but still warm. How can I maximise the space in a small ensuite bathroom layout?

Hi, I'd make your ensuite bigger. A 75cm squared shower is not fun. I'd go for at least 100 x 100cm. The bedroom is very generous compared to the ensuite and WIR. Considering your bed is unlikely to be longer than 200cm, then you won't need 150cm to walk around it. I'd give 50cm or more to the ensuite. And I think you won't be able to fit a cavity slider in that wall between the ensuite and WIR. I'd think about a shower up in the space you have the vanity. Then the WC next to it, with the back of the loo on the right wall. And the vanity/basin on the wall where you show the shower. So you see the vanity first when walking in. Other option is swap the shower and WC around. You can put a hinged door here, opening against the WC or shower as you can (if you want) close the door when they are being used. Another 50cm depth to the WIR will make a difference to your storage too.
