What matches with Leighton cream kitchen units

I am totally undecided in what colour worktop and flooring to choose with Leighton cream kitchen units.
I have cream smeg cooker but cannot find the right colour worktop or kitchen floor and wall tiles. We do a lot of cooking, so heavy traffic and kids in tow. I was also thinking of chalkboard paint on section of wall in bluey grey. Appliances are grey.
Also I need two ceiling lights for kitchen any suggestions.
I am desperate for suggestions as kitchen works start next week.
I want to create a feeling of warmth in the kitchen

Give a few more details please. What colour are your kitchen cabinets? What is the style you are going for? Is it contemporary, transitional or traditional?

Oops sorry I see you said cream cabinets. I would tend to go with a darker, contrasting countertop and floors if you have light cabinets.

Just wanted to say what a fantastic kitchen. So pleased you're keeping it! Formica would be the period correct work surface and can still be bought but may not fit with your budget? I would also look at having a carpenter produce your cabinets. They can be cheaper than off the shelf and would be better build. To save some money you could buy cheap plain carcasses and have a carpenter make doors to match the existing ones that you can then paint. That's what i'd do!

Putting white or light grey on a kitchen floor is asking for martyrdom - fine if you're what Freud called a housewife psychotic; but if mopping your floor three times a day isn't your thing, go for a darker floor and get your reflected light from the vertical surfaces of the island. I would also be wary of white next to cream - call me old-fashioned, but it's one of the few combinations that simply jars. Have you considered having a bold and bright colour for the island as a counterpoint to all that tastefully restrained grey, black and cream?

A pale warm stone coloured splash back would work with the units and complement the rich wood. Have you tried standing one of the floor tiles up against it to see how warm neutrals would look?

I think you can buy specific primers for melamine but a multi surface primer would also work, zinsser is excellent, I think it's zinsser B I N you need but check which one. If you're painting them you could fill the holes for new handles? I would personally use a pro though, melamine is obviously plastic so doesn't absorb anything so you want a good finish (I'm not doubting your painting skills btw as that sounds a bit rude, I suspect they're better than mine!). That's tricky with lights.. Can you see much in there? Ideally I would also add downlights and a pendant over the table but that's a seriously messy job as you'd need the ceiling reskimmed after. You could look at something like a spider light (obviously not one hanging as low as this, just adding pics of what I mean!) or maybe a multi arm light to disperse it in different directions? You can also buy multi outlet ceiling roses so then can have the light of your choice. You could potentially have a plug in to the left of the window. I don't suppose there's a socket by the table?!

Thank you for your reply. So would you say wooden top like colmar oak and floors in ceramic or porcelain? Could you suggest any ranges, I would be most grateful. Also I will need wall tiles to compliment and I was thinking to have a small area of wall painted in that chalk board paint in a bluish grey. And wall colour? I am trying to create the mood of warmth in the kitchen. contemporary modern style.
