Budget for interior design advice
Comments (2)Well a quote - not an estimate - is not supposed to go up as you go along ! It's a price that's fixed. An hourly rate is obviously very different. Before you enter into any agreement with a professional they should set out what their services are for, how much they are and when and how you need to pay in their T&C's that should be given to you before they even start. Maybe you need a quote from a concept planner instead ( like us !) You'd still need SE obviously, when knocking through walls etc, but we don't really get involved with the colours and choosing soft furnishing - we deal more with the room flow, sight lines from strategic points, overall layout and also design of fitted furniture in rooms like kitchens, bedrooms, dressing rooms etc etc etc we put sofas and chairs etc when required into our drawings too, as they are a large part of the room and consequently the design, but we don't help you choose colours or tell you where to shop ! So it can work out less cost than an interior design service, as you are getting less help with that side of things....See MoreIdeas needed for my Master Bedroom
Comments (14)What a pretty room! How ornate do you want to go? How about a dado rail and panelling (look up "faux wainscoting" for a budget friendly DIY solution) in the same colour as the door frames and skirting, to go really old school and elegant? That sort of look suits a statement armchair perched in a corner. As others have said, that floral wallpaper/fabric is great in a bedroom (I think). In an adult bedroom, I'd go a bit nuts with this stuff, frankly. Easy enough to change if you decide to tone it down a bit. If you do it above some classic panelling, it would ameliorate the look. Otherwise, perhaps cool rustic luxury. Matt black lamps, brass, white marble, a stripped brick internal wall (messy but cheap to do). By the way, I am exactly in the same boat as you. We are just finishing the renovation of a Victorian house, and our master suite is the bit that needs to be finished. If it helps, I am genuinely torn between the two looks below. My wife prefers option one - she is a US east coaster, used to funky lofts and DC/NY chic. I like option two - I'm British and grew up with friends whose parents had rambling period country houses full of clutter and slightly bonkers decor, with the odd Spaniel ambling around. Option one: go cool. Option two: go big....See MoreBedroom refresh on a budget..help pls
Comments (19)I think the room is nice. I'd look at something like this to work with the carpet and furniture (or hopefully!). Excuse the awful photoshop especially the giant stem on the left which I couldn't shrink and the shades are the wrong shape :) You could swap the juju hat for art, I just added it as hard to choose art for someone! I agree re the chest, if it can't be moved, can you widen the pole at all to leave a slight gap between the chest and curtains although it's hard to see exactly where the window frame is? I also agree with a warmer colour for the walls (and door and rad). I'd also try hanging the mirror as portrait and adding a 3rd frame to the other collection and maybe space them a bit so they're not touching? Could you also move the chair to another corner to add a palm as I think some greenery will really break it up?...See More6k Wren kitchen on a budget or 24k lechit kitchen?
Comments (37)Fiza, if you are going to rent out your home I wouldn’t fit an expensive kitchen unless your home is a large luxury home. After all tenants may not care for it the way you would. My kitchen is a 12 year old Wrens kitchen. It was fitted by my brother as Wrens didn’t do installations at that time. It’s okay, just that. Nothing special. It cost £5500 including appliances, worktop, sink etc. My sister recently had a new, fantastic quality German kitchen installed. Can’t remember the brand or the price (the quartz worktops cost £5000 alone). The difference is incredible and I think anyone will be able to see the difference immediately. Next time I will use an independent kitchen company as I have learnt they cater to all budgets, not just high end. I would like to add that Daisy has been a member of Houzz for many years and her advice has been invaluable. She has never advertised her business or pushed people to use it on this forum. The only time she does so is if members ask for her details and then she messages them privately. We get lots of spammers on Houzz, but Daisy isn’t one of them....See MoreIn Oaks
