The window lentils...are they real?

The window lentils look like they were applied to the surface of the brick to give a better look. I'm trying to determine how to do this on my old brick schoolhouse windows. Thanks!!!

HI there - Yes the lintels are real - this is a Grade 2 listed property and everything is original.

I love both but it depends on the property and the overall style of the house. I am about to embark on a renovation project of a 1970s house and I’m looking to completely transform the exterior with render and change the windows to sashes, I don’t know where to start so any advice by sash window experts is welcome!

We would say that your best bet is to go with wooden venetians, they come in a huge range of colours and give you that plantation shutter look, but without the bulk or price tag. They can be partly closed in the morning - giving you privacy but also giving you control over the light coming in. With larger slats you can angle the light towards the ceiling or towards the floor. Had a bit of a google on this and really there is only one solution and that is fencing. Needs to be the chicken wire sort of fence, at least 2ft high and buried 6inch below ground. Doesn’t need to be around the whole perimeter just around the young trees while they get established. There are lot more things that rabbits love to eat than don’t and tender new saplings can be a favourite. From what I’ve read people have tried all sorts of things. Sprinkling the new trees with cayenne pepper or chilli or garlic powder is supposed to be a good deterrent as the pungent smell puts them off, however needs to be re applied after rain. One comment said mothballs were extremely effective but I wouldn’t recommend as these are toxic. Sonic deterrents and scarers may be effective for a little while but rabbits soon grow wise to them and just ignore them. Not sure if it would work in UK but laying a hose pipe down pretending to be a snake is supposed to scare them off. Dogs! Especially those with the hunting instinct are by far the best deterrent you can get:) Another method instead of trying to fight them is to give them what they want. You could dedicate a small patch with yummy rabbit food such as white clover and cabbages:)....well away from your new plants of course.

There are many causes of condensation, and no window can ever promise to eliminate it completely. You should not believe anyone telling you new windows will never condensate. If steel windows are out of your budget, there are aluminium steel-look windows with better thermal insulation that should be a lot cheaper. They won't give you the 100% look of the genuine Crittall® or other steel windows as the profiles, the way they're made, and the design is too different. However, the current range of aluminium steel-look is very well-designed and worth at least comparing with the superb genuine article.
