Comments (16)Hello Joelle, I see your'e being given some great advise and ideas!! If you can't find any suitable vintage wardrobes have you considered having fitted wardrobes - painted the same colour as the pale grey walls so they blend into the background - with small discrete knobs or no knobs/handles (a push opener). Long grey curtains either dark or light I think would look great and very hotel chic. When looking for suitable material don't forget to take a sample of your wallpaper with you to check which colours work best and then ask for samples of the material to take home to check at different times of day ad evening to see which looks best in different lights. I'd consider having the long curtains as 'dress' curtain with tie backs and fit either a roman or roller blind - for privacy, warmth and to keep the room as light as possible. Moving the sideboard to opposite the bed I agree is the best place and becomes the focal point of the room - also great to see when you're actually lying in bed. You could look on e-bay for a large vintage 1950's mirror perhaps frame less with beveled edge to hang above. The long mirror I'd lean on the wall left of the window. I love your grey head board. To add luxury I'd go for a white duvet and pillow cases and use the colours in the wallpaper for throw(s) and cushions. Again don't forget to always have a sample of wallpaper and curtain material with you when shopping for these. I really like the photo of the mid century bedside table you've posted - very much in keeping with your theme and would also look to buy a ceiling light and table lamps again from that period - perhaps on e-bay? Good luck and enjoy your project! Katharine, DesignWorks....See MoreNeed help for my bedrooms - paint!
Comments (5)My wife and I have just had a very long discussion on paint ( for a change - it's her greatest bug bear! ) - We both agree, having been trade customers for years with Dulux, that their paint is superior to most. However, and, there's a big but coming here. There colour match cards rarely bear any resemblance to the paint mixed, and, the scanning service is simply appauling. I have lost count now over the past two or three years how many tins of paint i've taken back due to them bearing no resemblance to the card or the item scanned. Maybe it's just a problem with our local shop, but, I don't see why I should need to locate another one to buy more and test the theory. Hence, we are now writing to Dulux to complain. ( Perhaps I should do a vote on here! ) Anyway, we have grudgingly swapped to Valspar at B&Q ( used to be Crown ). The colour cards, and, in particular the scanning service are second to none, it's fabulous. So, go to BandQ get some colour cards, take them home, whittle them down to 2 or 3. Then go back to the shop, and by the tester posts, paint them on to A4 sheets of paper and hang them up / walk around with them. Paint changes with light so it's quite important to do this. Your decorator is your decorator, you are the ones paying him, and therefore, you shall dictate what paint is being used not him - I'm sure he'll understand, that is if he wants the job!...See Moreneed help to decorate my bedroom
Comments (8)Hi Anna. The chairs work, I just find personally they're a little dark. I'd add a gold cushion on one and a throw over the arm of the other. A pretty scarf may work better sizewise and for draping. I think I'd go for a Louis cane chair without arms for the desk. Although the desk looks quite short (?) so if so perhaps a velvet footstool. What exactly were you looking to change in terms of decor and people can then make suggestions for a rug? It's another lovely room and I hope you don't mind me saying but I'm not sure the chest works that well in terms of style and colour....See MoreAlix Flamm Designs
