Paint colour for French house shutters

Hi..I'm having great difficulty choosing a paint colour for my shutters at my house in France. I love muted colours ..the window surrounds are grey stone. Cream shutters are ok but I would love to inject some colour which I think would make the house look more elegant and alive.

Lovely place!!!!! I like the colours above.. Sage, darker olive, or greyish greens.. Earthy colours but really matt..... Paint the shutters the same colour as the front door, as you have already currently.. Some huge pots.. Olive tree's..... : ))

It is a great house. Are you the lady in France with the fireplace?! Personally I would go for a traditional colour like a duck egg or green or blue as you mentioned. Anthracite can look great as pictured although this house is slightly less traditonal than yours. If you're not fond of the french rustic look then try it. I don't think I've personally ever seen a house with wood windows and painted shutters tbh. They're either white or painted the shutter colour. Maybe do the shutters and then decide but I do think they may be better painted in white

Thank you!From Little Greene I'm currently trying the various shades of Slaked Lime and, French Grey, and Cool Arbour... I also liked Hardwick White, Off-White, etc etc (FnB)... :/ I just can't decide whether the painted stone, ie rough/wobbly texture looks ok darker, or not. Or whether to do frames a mid-greyish tone, with soft white walls...or. just paint the lot white! The frames on the stone wall sides make any shades look different again...

Hi Nicky, my apologies I have only just seen your message. We went for cornforth white Farrow and Ball (which it definitely not white). The shutters are not back open yet but some of them will need to go back on because the large expanses of grey look very grey. The bits next to the white look less austere. The new white garage door with windows has made a big difference. I'd be careful with a very pale grey because if your windows are anything like mine you'll find that they are not actually that white after all....

Hi, thanks for your comment, as you can see in the photo the windows are white and the shutters were also but it looked really grubby. We're worried they may look too dark against the bricks but the pvc windows we're looking at don't have a huge range of colours. What would you suggest based on the photo of the house? Thank you x

Absolutely totally agree we tried out farrow and ball Mizzle but too greener. I must admit I won't use Farrow and Ball but love their colours..in France we have Tollens but as I'm coming back to the UK can source a good paint there. Thank you so much for advice.

Hi Jscott001,

We have a range of 96 colours inspired by nature that could enhance your lovely house. If you want a strong green we have New Sap, but for a more subtle shade of green we have Bud that is very similar but paler than F&B's Mizzle. We also have a lovely green called Custard Apple which is one of Sir Terence Conran's favourites. If you are looking towards a blue, we have Pale Veronica and Hydrangea Head which would work beautifully with the house. I love the combination of olive greens with turquoise. You could go for a muted pale olive on the shutters and a purer turquoise on the front door.
