Do you have a fire pit in your garden?
Comments (81)I helped my Dad build a fire pit in his garden, he made wooden seats to sit around the metal fire pit with old stone columns for extra seating (unfortunately you can't see the actual fire-pit as behind the stone bench). Lots of stories and fun are had around it until deep into the night. If you have the space it is a great addition to put in! Shannon...See MoreHelp to disguise garden eyesore
Comments (22)I do appreciate the suggestions ,thank you so much everyone for taking the trouble to share your ideas. I think we will go with the suggestion made by Revolutionary Gardens and create a gentle slope. I was particularly taken by the image of the buried elephant, I would probably have created what looked like a cemetery for several dinosaurs without your wise words. We have so much land around these projections that I can begin the slope at least 100 feet away on every side. For those who have suggested a table and or chairs over the offending projections, the idea makes perfect sense except for the small point that these hatches lead directly into our main sewage system and on a warm day, with the wind in a particular direction, the aroma emanating from them does rather put you off your dinner. Hope the eyesore will be a bit less overwhelming by next spring so will post some pics of how it looks then....See MoreBorder plant ideas
Comments (18)Firstly Thanks everyone for your comments Progress report. I have some things that could be used (after seeing the price of plants I thought at least I should try) ...they just don't go together?? I have a large 1m sq lavender in the bottom corner that I rescued before we dug the garden up. (not shown on pic and wasn't sure if its staying although its stunning in flower but doesn't have to stay) At the allotment I already have a lavender hedges that's have been growing for a couple of years round beds that could be moved? Hosta's love them I have 2 huge ones in pots at the minute but thought they hated the sun? I also have 2 bushy short bamboos and 4 big tall bamboos all in matching very plain, bronze colour, square fibreglass pots (4 big, 2 smaller) that are at the front of the house that could go round the back just not sure what plants would compliment them. Don't want to end up with something that resembles a meditation garden or panda rescue centre. Painting the fence is a great idea a new one would be even better when funds allow Worried about boxes a little as my pruning seems to get a little wild and I fear I would be left with off shaped balls but ordered my giant alliums already as I can either use them, grow in pots or brighten up the allotment beds Called at the garden centre on the way from work (quick rush round as it was closing) and saw Erica arborea 'Albert's Gold' lime green tall heather plant that had a really nice colour?...See MorePOLL: Bungalow - love or loathe?
Comments (85)Yes that was one of the issues with our place. Narrow corridors, poorly lit. But by rearranging the access to key spaces, blocking some doors and creating a new double width doorway to the principle room, what was a narrow hallway is now integrated and useful. By converting the large loft, we now have a stairwell lit by two velux windows which also throw light into the heart of the building. Lastly the old underhouse garage is now a studio, glazed with full height blue-grey aluminium windows and a door. Our originally depressing, generic ittle bungalow on a sloping site has become a four bed live-work space on three levels that is beginning to feel more like our home...See Morecherimayell
