POLL: Favourite colour in a children's room?

We've just completed a fun survey where we asked Houzzers how they've decorated and renovated their bedrooms. We'll publish the results in a few months, so you can see what the quintessential British bedroom looks like!
Children's bedrooms are always a hot topic, so I thought we could discuss them here as we hardly covered them in the survey. What colour would you go for in a children's room? Does it matter if it's a bedroom for a boy or a girl and are colourful and creative rooms to be preferred over neutral? Have your say here!

Comments (4)More important than formal or informal is making it a habit of sitting down together at a table rather than eating from your knees in front of the Television. If you have oodles of space & lots of friends a designated dining room can be a real luxury. Go to town on it, making it indulgent. If it is to be used in the evenings i would have rich deep colours, gilt framed paintings, & great ambient lighting including candles & candleabra to be reflected in a large mirror. To make sure a separate dining room works hard for its money make it libaryesque...double it up as a gorgeous retreat with books which add depth & decor to the walls. Include an armchair in a luxurious velvet fabric. When the table isn't laid leave piles of interesting books on the table. It will soon be a favourite room & even if you have small children it can be a soothing place to read stories when they are fractious, poorly or in the evenings. They will see it as a special place devoid of toys & T.V's. A special retreat for a grown up too when the children are in bed to sit with a glass of wine. Gone are the days when a formal dining room is a cold room only used on Christmas day when space elsewhere is at a premium..ridiculous! Nothing will replace the freedom of an informal kitchen diner for those families lucky enough to have room but if you are a young family & do have extra space a designated dining room is a real treat, but make sure it is used, & have fun indulging the senses. Remember, "Formal" is an unfriendly word & not how we live now. You don't want your guests worried about which fork to use. There is, however, no greater fun than occasionally layering a table with china, candles, & crystal all of which can be bought at antique malls & charity shops. Always include flowers. This can also be achieved at the kitchen table. Collect mismatching china if on a budget & beautiful cutlery. Comments (8)I agree with the previous posts. I love them all but maybe not all year round. I like a more traditional print such as my Wisteria fabric and wallpaper. The below two rooms show how differently you can use a bold design. Modern and colourful vs traditional french country style. So maybe if some of those tropical designs were styled more traditionally, they could be more livable?!...See More
