How to organise paperwork/clutter in busy kitchen diner?
Comments (5)We use an A4 sized acrylic letter rack for leaflets, catalogues etc. in the kitchen and go through it once it gets too full. Amazing the stuff that I hang on to unnecessarily! But it does help to keep track of stuff that needs something to be done in the near future. Bills etc. go straight onto the study desk. What really does irritate me though is the accumulation of newspapers and magazines which end up on the kitchen worktop. I'm going to treat us to a nice wall mounted rack soon....See MoreHelp with layout of long narrow kitchen / diner
Comments (10)Hello Karen, The pic is a bit too small and doesn't really enlarge to see what's happening here.. It's not always the case that offering another bedroom would be the right way to go in order to make more money as I'm assuming this is the reasoning... If the space is obviously kitchen and dining it's really difficult too with the spatial configurations to offer this as living room as well. I think a straight galley would be good here and what I would design, but with windows possibly not this run on window side but on the opposite side with the configuration I'm going to suggest... Start with a full height fridge freezer in the corner Then have a run of two cabinets and then free standing range at 60 wide and then two further low cabinets and then sink with slimline dishwasher for example.. So roughly going to about 460 or so. . Maybe you could incorporate a free standing dresser for crockery/glassware opposite and then the 4 cupboards would be pots and pans etc... keeping the galley minimal means the space opens as much as possible... . How you deal with the colours etc will of course have further impact.. If you had this on the wall side you could then have some overhead cabinets if you wanted to... Many interesting ways of doing this that is not just uniform and boring.. I'd keep the front room as a living room and rear as bedroom, there may be a way to re plan the bathroom to make it smaller whilst retaining what is essential... for a bath consider a soaking tub which is a meter wide or a tiny bath with shower fitting overhead.. : ))...See MoreBest layout for kitchen-diner?
Comments (8)I'm not sure about going for bifold or patio doors onto the garden. They might not be so practical for going in and out to take the rubbish and children coming and going. Also might restrict your seating options. How about a door as the photo shows and then a large low window with a window seat. The window could open completely in summer to allow people to sit either side of the wall. I'd make sure you fit in a tv too. You have young children and sometimes it really is helpful to be able to put on cbbc etc at the table. I know ideally children shouldn't watch so much television but if it means they sit at a table rather than on floor in front of tv it's helpful....See MoreHow to get the best from this layout?
Comments (20)I do like the Kitchen on the right in the dining area. The only thing I don't like about all the ideas is that you have to walk out of the kitchen to the utility area, when you could probably have a better kitchen with built in appliances. Then use the utility area as a coat / shoe / storage area. Not having a coat cupboard will be limiting the storage to zero. Also, I don't think you need the door from the Hallway to the rear of the house. Something roughly like this ( As mentioned a few times now, it's difficult with no dimensions to go on ) I think compromising the flow of the house just to have a quite small, separate utility area is not the best way forward. If you're really set on a Utility off the Kitchen, then I would stick with your plan to have the Kitchen on the left, and with a further tweak you can get a better Utility area:- I was also wondering about the dimensions of the little piece of wall at the end of the lounge and wondering if you might be able to move the door to that, this would then allow a wall for a sofa and the opening up of the wall from lounge to dining area, giving more light and a front to back aspect to the house. It would also allow for the sofa to face the fireplace:-...See Morekellyparsons201
