Bored with this - need to add something- help!

Kitchen doesn't need replacing at all - only five years old and has open plan dinning area as well with a refectory table - but just needs a lift now - we have looked at it for five years and would love to know what I could do to lift it a bit.

Hi There I would add a hallway runner to take away the echo that would be there (due to there being a hard floor). I would also add something in the hall either a coat rack wall, mounted or free standing and change the light fittings for something unusual, a striking fitting is what is necessary in a room with very few features.

No expertise in this so it's just my opinion - have you considered changing your light bulbs to LEDs which you can get on the white light end of the spectrum - the natural light ones would make it less obvious that it was enclosed. The ones that fit into ordinary light sockets are relatively cheap now! The carpets are a great idea too but I appreciate that can be expensive (@Stairbox - your last picture is pretty much the same as the one I've just got and it did make the stairs feel much more exciting - white walls for light but interest on the floor). My other suggestion would be wall stickers - you've got some lovely blank spaces there - sometimes art can be expensive and if it's too wide it can feel like it's intruding in the hall space but wall stickers are cheap, flat and nobody would notice the stairs as they'd be too busy loving (or hating) your chosen images. Plus you can just take them off if you want a change. I like the ones with nature and movement but there's loads about!

Egyptian Cotton is a very nice neutral and I have it in my bedroom! You’re right, it needs colour and art on the walls. I wonder if introducing some colour by painting the wall behind the bed in another colour may be a good start. Navy is a lovely rich tone that will create a cosy feel, which you can then accessorise with cushions and a throw on the bed. I’ve shared a photo where the owners have used a russet tone in the accessories. I don’t necessarily suggest that shade but you can see how they have dressed the room and you could use any colour you like.

I love your bathroom - it is a colour scheme I’m thinking along the lines of - cream and black. I don’t agree it needs greens personally. One of the issue - there is a lot of square straight elements - eg the sink the mirror, the tiles - so I would change to a round mirror. I would introduce pattern along the same colour scheme (neutral black) with a pop in some of the finished (you can try and mix black handles with something else) - if the issue also is that it looks too sterile - some wood elements could work very well with this scheme also.

It needs a splash of bold colour. The wall to the left of the oven, beside the door, could provide this either by hanging some art, or putting a couple of floating shelves with colourful bowls/vases/ bottles or whatever.

Then use more of the same colours in new window blinds. Look for blinds with some texture to them, roman blinds might work.

You have plenty of storage space so declutter and only keep a few beautiful objects on display. The vase of branches and the lantern are lovely but too tall and they're fighting with the lights so I'd move them to the living area.

My personal choice of colour would be red but anything will work, maybe find a piece of art you love and use the colours from that. Good luck!

A more expensive option would be to replace the kitchen doors and panels.

If not I would go for a bold colour splash back or tiles.

Definitely look to change the handles- can make a massive difference to a kitchen.

Oh and I'd use some colour on the window!

Hi. It looks a lovely kitchen. It really depends on budget. I agree with bookworm and sort our stuffs comments. I would update the handles if you can, I love a cup handle and they sit with so many styles. Maybe also paint the island as this would have a big impact. I would change the lights. I'm not too sure of your style after looking in your Ideabook but maybe simpler pendants. I'd also change the bar stools, maybe something in wood to add some texture?

Painting the walls a colour would make a big difference - it's very neutral so lots of options. A light olive or sage green, duck egg and mink would all look good.

You could replace the granite with a more modern choice as the trend has moved to lighter colours.
If you had planned to spend less then why not just paint the walls a warm grey?

I've seen a few similar spaces where a teal or aqua colour as an accent have worked well. You could add it in a backsplash, a feature wall or by using accessories.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who has comment and given suggestions- I am very grateful ...... Sometimes when it is your own home you just cannot see what is needed!!

Have decided on introducing an accent colour of a very rich dark plum colour with a splash of cerise pink here and there - am thinking cerise will be an absolute minimum - in the form of silicone spatula heads, tongs, etc.... Am now designing a painting for the wall to the left of the ovens - I paint so can have a piece of my own work there. And am talking my husband round to the idea of changing the two big lights over the island to something a little more contemporary!!

Love the idea of fresh plants - at the moment only have the token gesture of a basil plant on a window ledge that gets a drastic haircut every time I do Italian!!

I have learnt - and I should have been more adventurous in the beginning - instead of worrying about " what if I get it wrong" with regard to the look!!

I am also going to have Roman blinds made for the Windows with a funky Pom Pom trim - now looking for some plum fabric with a shot of cerise in it.... Not quite sure about pelmets yet..... Whether to have them removed or recovered to match new blinds.

Thank you again for all your suggestions - handles will stay at the moment - as too costly to replace ( over 50 of them!) and the granite..... Well, that has to stay!! Or my husband will combust!!!
But thank you all again for all your ideas and your time- have already ordered some plum coloured Perspex stools for the island and feel inspired again!!

Hello,

Inject some colours in! Your kitchen looks great the way it is. Have you considered adding some warm colours in? Red would look nice, alternatively you could think of blue, grey, even yellow or orange.

Creating a feature wall can also help, consider adding some artwork on the wall. Perhaps you could pick one colour and get some accessories in the same colour.

A pendant light could be also an option.

I also like the idea of adding a rich plum runner rug. Would help to balance out the colour you plan to paint the wall. If you get a flat weave one you can stick it in the washing machine when needed.
