Mirror or Not ?

We are wondering whether to add a mirror into the tiles above the sink in this WC or not? (once up, it has to stay as tiles will then have holes)

I was thinking to put a mirror elsewhere, on the opposite wall but traditionally would have put one above this sink. I really like the tiling so think mirror can go elsewhere.

We can:

Put a flat mirror onto the tiles
Put a mirror that sits off the wall with pivots around the middle at the edges
No mirror and move it elsewhere

If you suggest a mirror maybe show the style?...We been living like this for few months now and still cannot decide. Plenty mirrors elsewhere just cannot decide on this room.

I say put a mirror if you're able
I think flat is way more practical, but even if you choose an off-the-wall style, it'd be better than no mirror.
Imo: Mirrors above basins are highly useful. Mirrors elsewhere in the bathroom can be inconvenient.
Also, the mirror need not be so large as to cover up the tile you want visible.

What about just having a mirror hanging on a hook? Hook can be situated at the side of the panel.. Grout is very slim otherwise you might have been able to situate a hook between the two tiles.. In this way if you decide you didn't want it... you just fill the grout.. Something that is decorative both hook and mirror... so it offers something to look at if you wish.. but is not unattractive.. It can even be an antique..but the pocket watch style lends itself well to being hung in a simple way..

One last thing... I don't suppose there is some sort of period detailing in the bathroom, like a picture rail that runs above the sink area?.... If there is then put picture hook on picture rail and then hang something at the height you require... Then you could have something shaped accordingly... Something like this... antique mirrors or unusual style are so refreshing to see... So some ideas that you may be able to work with : ))

If you’ve got young kids I’d avoid a leaner mirror. In any case if that is the way you go, definitely tether it to the wall.

I would like to have a large mirror in the bathroom flush amongst the tiles... Should I have a tile trim - brushed chrome around the mirror for a neat finish OR just silicone around the mirror? Also... big mirror up to the ceiling or leave a gap for tiles at top of mirror?

Dear tt_71,

You could use a silicone glue in order not to damage the tiles on the wall. It is possible to glue a rail on the tiles on top of which the mirror can be fitted or, if you want a thinner and flatter fit, it will be possible to apply the glue directly to the mirror leaving no gap between the surfaces.

There are then a few ways to remove the glue from the tiles without damaging them if you will change your mind in the future.

I would have a mirror cut to size to fit proportionally on the tiles, or across the tiles for a wider surface.

The detailing of the bathroom is already strong and consistent, from what I see on your picture, so I would personally avoid another decorative element on the frame.

The wall looks very bare without a mirror and one that is flat to the wall will work best.
