Bedroom dilemma

We have recently moved into a property and the bedroom is an awful color.

We thought we wanted a dark blue bedroom but have since decided on greys.

We have no idea what color gray, what wallpaper, how to decorate it etc and looking for a bit of advice.

The room has lots of space for a semi and we have a chimney breast and two alcoves and then the bay window. We are unable to replace the cream carpet.

Any help on colours/wallpaper designs/placement of furniture would be great.

It's a great size and I love the idea of grey. Why not paint the two recessed areas a darker grey to make them appear deeper. Maybe Farrow and ball, Purbeck Stone 275 for the recesses and the rest of the walls Ammonite 274. This will make it feel much more light and airy and create some more interest.

I think the furniture looks fine where it is. Make sure the bed is central between the door and the window. I would then make a feature of the chimney breast. Either add a photo wall or a large mirror, or series of smaller different sized mirrors to add inetrest and bounce the light around. Then some artwork above the bed to introduce as splash of colour. If you could stretch to it a light grey carpet or painted floor boards would finish it off!

Thank you for your comment. We were looking at something a lot more darker to be honest, as you can see from what we originally chose for the blue scheme.

Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea of the mirrors on the chimney breast and will defo take that on board!

Before you pick a paint color I would choose your bedding; a quilt, drapes or headboard something to start with so you can buy accessories to compliment the colors in them. Look at different houzz photos for inspiration and take note of the photos which you like and what colors are used.

It looks great, I'm glad you and your daughter are so pleased and she has lots of room for friends over, playing etc. It can also be easily and cheaply adapted as she grows if she wants. My only criticism (if you can call it that) is that if not already your daughter may soon also want the desk to double up as a dressing table and therefore I think a mirror was a good idea but the memo board (which looks great) can always be moved as and when needed. (I thought i'd posted a comment on that previously but obviously not!). I might also add a desk light there for working during winter months. So which room next?!

Ivory painted wood bedside table and matching large chest of drawers to be put in room, small table in photo to be put beside chair at other end of the room. I wanted dark wood but hubby wants light oak. Will have white bedding with taupe quilt so thought the dark wood would look better.

Farrow & Ball Manor House Gray is a great colour that I have used before. Suggest you test an area before you decorate as its quite dark. You could use it as a feature/accent paint and a lighter or contrasting shade for other walls. Its difficult to tell what natural lighting you have and how this will impact on the room. You may want to look at improving the lighting to make the most of your newly decorated room and the mirrors previously suggested will help to reflect light around the room - great idea. good luck
