There's no escaping the fact that bi-fold doors are becoming ever more popular with people looking for a garden room or home extension. Are they here to stay, or is it a passing trend?

We use bi-folding doors in a lot of our kitchens as clients cannot resist one when they see it. They can be very useful within a kitchen or any room as below:

Bi-folding doors vs. 2 double doors
Comments (5)Seen this and given the date i think you will have sorted. But anyway..... Th idea of sliding folding doors is great. The technical quality has got much better over the years and they seal so well - better now than sliding (except if you spend huge amounts of money) They stack smaller (and therefore can blend more) than large folding/hinged. Comments (3)I don't have doors like that but any whistling sound surely has to be a faulty seal? Perhaps contact the door manufacturers to ask so you have backup when you speak to your builder again. Comments (17)I’m getting an ultraline sliding door fitted in our new extension in a few weeks. 2.4 high x 4.4 wide. The frames are 20mm. It’s about £10k and I can’t remember off the top of my head whether that includes VAT (probably not unfortunately). But our number one goal with our extension is to connect our living space to our garden, so it feels right to prioritise budget for it. You don’t need a local company necessarily as national companies will have local agents who have product in their showrooms. This has been tricky over the last few months but we also looked at local friends’ houses last summer, where they had installed various different brands of sliders and bifolds, and were able to get a good feel for them from their gardens! PRO10 years agoOur Clients are equally split between bifold doors (as one of our installations below) and patio sliding doors - it seems to be very much a personal choice, coming down in the end to sight lines i.e. how much glass compared to frame they want.......

PRO9 years agoIt is personal choice - and it comes down to what a customer is looking to achieve from their project. The comment above about only getting properly used in summer is complete valid, as too is the overall size of the doors, where they are located on the house, what the view is like out of the property...indeed there is so much to consider we wrote and entire blog on the subject.

PRO9 years agoWe have often used bi-fold doors or sliding panels to integrate the interior and exterior spaces. Care should be taken that the integration is followed through with careful consideration of decoration, materials, garden landscaping etc in both areas to ensure harmonious result
