What is the distance between the table and the sideboard?

Hi Diana, There was 1500mm from the edge of the table to the sideboard. Thanks Susan

Hi Macycle, A utility room in a cottage would lend itself to a smaller tile. You said you might feel it was "busy"...I have found that a patterned tile can give energy and life to a very dull utilitarian space. A classic repeat pattern or even monotone could look stunning with block colour units. It really depends on the look and feel you're after.

Size of the planks is really up to you, small or large can look great even in small rooms, as for direction you'll want to lay them in a direction that feel right for the room, traditionaly its oblique to where the joists would run. So for the large living room they would run up and down the length of the room (4.371 direction) that would make the room feel longer and be conventional, though you could run the along the shorter length which could make the room feel shorter but cozier.

Thanks! Plants would definitely improve the view outside. Worth investigating if any can survive but it is very dark - the room next door is still basement level but not directly behind a floor to ceiling wall like this one unfortunately is. I think it appears brighter in the photos thanks to modern cameras! The image showing both rooms at the same time of day is probably the most realistic view of the light (or lack of) Yes it would be to buy so adding in more glazing is an option. Along the other room wall would add more light but I think it would then be problematic for sleeping. Maybe a window can be added above the door and a glazed door used too. Like this: I’m not sure on the fake windows - they could be ok but I’d have to see them in person. Thanks macbroom! That seems like a good idea !

Hi Sarah, I think 1.9x1.2 is a small but not-too-small shower room! It looks like you have received lots of great advice already, especially the hidden cisterns within the stud wall to save space in the rooms. Its hard to tell if the floor plan shown is accurate or to scale, but it seems like there is a bit of extra space right of the front door. So I wondered if you could enlarge the main shower room to be big enough so you could have a bath with a shower above? This room could also have storage for general bathroom and cleaning supplies. 1m is tight but if space is compromised you may not have much choice.
