Need help with holes leather sofa

I have a modern cream leather sofa, part of a suite. One end of the sofa has holes, and the dark leather underneath is showing through. Re-covering it is a very expensive option, and I can't find a leather repair kit to match the existing.

So I would like to cover the seat with a big cushion, thinking of fixing it with velcro tape. Has anyone done something similar, made big cushions to cover problem areas? I have Sanderson Dandelion Clocks fabric; the living room has a 1970s influence. Suggestions for cushion designs would be really helpful!

Although we've gone for fabric in this poll, we know that for most of us this very much comes down to a choice between comfort and aesthetic. Leather is a bit more of an acquired taste when you're talking about comfort, whereas the right fabric sofa comes with comfort built in. If like us you love great textile design, a sumptuous fabric sofa is definitely an opportunity to explore the work of some well established textile designers like Margo Selby or new breed upholstery & textile design houses like Native Flok in Edinburgh. Okay, so you may just be looking for a lovely, comfortable sofa you can curl up on and watch Strictly, but even then, if approached with a sense of adventure, navigating the brave new world of textile design can still be very exciting stuff!

@Milfordmaid: thanks a lot for the suggestion. Lime green is sounding very nice to me. What did you mean by smaller bits of pillar box red? What do you think of the rug? I actually had a re-think and was thinking maybe I should leave out the rug. Just to use bright cushions, lampshades, and some decorative accessories combining the cushion colours and sofa colours and a bit of cream. What of the wall art?

Normally if you go for different seating you can either tie in the style of the sofa or the legs and/or add cushions in the different sofa colours to tie them in. Personally I'd go for a vintage tan leather Chesterfield sofa, tan is neutral and chesterfields tend to sit alongside most styles and it will also suit the room. There are lots of love seats around in different colours. Do you have any idea of what you want and pics? I assume you'll paint to match the loveseat rather than vice versa? Do you already have curtains to consider?

Don't know whether this suggestion will be of any use but have you tried any of the leather restoration companies that operate in the classic car world? We've had repairs done to various old cars in the past, including one where the leather had spilt and another where the lighter colour had worn/faded away.

Thanks, what a good idea. Should have thought of that - my husband restores veteran/vintage motor bikes....
