Kitchen lighting help

We have a large kitchen island and dining table perpendicular to the island. The ceiling is very high and eating at the dining table isn't very cosy... I had originally planned to have pendant lights over the island but I need something to make the dining table feel more intimate... ..was wondering if I have the 3 of the same light with one over the table and 2 over the island .....but I'm worried it will look insignificant..open to any suggestions which don't need to just be about lighting! Attached is photo of the kitchen and the pendant lights I was thinking of using...

Hello! Great kitchen! I would put an oversized shade over the table . You don't even have to touch the wiring. Just buy a long length of fabric covered electric cable to plug in, attached the shade, and fix it on a nice hook above your table. I would choose different lights for the island, much smaller. What about to add comfy chair cushions? You could also add some type of curtains/ blinds, but you have such lovely window shutters, you don't want to spoil their look!

Could you maybe add a rug under your table? Maybe a console table on the wall between your windows? Would you like to add some framed artwork or photographs and make a gallery wall surrounding your tv?

i also think a low pendant which will diffuse the light over your table will look good. Try bhs lighting for some ideas. Lovely kitchen though.

I’d be tempted to move the feature down light near to Belfast sink a bit closer to the perimeter wall - so the lights shine above the sink - to cancel out the shadow it would cause if it were where positioned currently.

Hi. The room looks lovely. I think it just slightly lacks different textures and textiles. I think I would go for 3 glass spheres over the island, and then whatever material the casing/fittings are made up ie nickel or whatever pick some nickel up in a light for the dining table (I'd hang it lower than the island lights and maybe look at a soft fabric). You could add flowers to the table in a patterned vase. I'd look for a really nice fruit bowl, pitcher etc for the island and then maybe a potted plant and herb of differing heights but mix up the texture of the pots. Can the tv be moved to another ŵall? A set of 8/12 prints hung portrait would look good to take the focus away from the tv (oka have a couple of sets suitable for a kitchen). Is there room for a slim sofa?? Maybe also a throw draped over the back of the chair? Ps I have a home for your shutters if ever you don't want them!

Hi there. Maybe you don't need anything over the Island ? I think a light over the table only deals with the intimacy of the dining and for evenings you can have just this light on ? Socialising at the Island can be handled by the spots. How about something a little different? Vino

thank you so much for all your replies...wish I had started using this site sooner...might have saved me from some horrible mistakes... I think I am going to have to add curtains in some form or another as the room is echoing horribly (the ceiling used to be lower but it cut the top of the right hand window off so we raised it back to the original but are now struggling with sound)....I did find some glass spheres but we felt they looked too industrial and fittings were shiny copper..so if you have any suggestions minnie101 of particular lamps that would be great..the units have an aged brass look and the taps are brushed steel if that helps. Was wondering Nicholas John Interiors about not having hanging lights over the island but some kind of other hanging thing...your attachment looks great but I couldn't see any sizes and I'm not sure my husband will go for the dangling bits...so any other suggestions also welcome...

I can't see any mistakes, it's lovely! I am a little biased but I would avoid curtains if possible. The previous owners of our house had curtains in the living room and I think the windows look so much better with just the shutters (sadly missing in our dining room!). You could try a rug, maybe a sisal or jute if you're not keen on rugs under a table, to stop the echoing and art would also help. I also read that a bookcase (with books!) helps.
