Removing ugly 1970s fire- what to replace it with
Comments (9)Hi Lucy - you could make a feature of the hole - in the past we have made a simple square architrave to frame the aperture and our clients have put candles in the hole, photos or other stylish items. You can also fit subtle lighting in there to illuminate a sculpture of some sort. We've also designed a number of schemes with the potential for a flueless gel fire, although none have been implemented to date - but I inlcude an image below from elsewhere on Houzz to show the sort of thing. You can search for flueless gel fires and similar items on the web noting any specific technical requirements for their installation. Hope this helps. Nick...See More1970's through lounge!
Comments (6)Hi Karen, I would do white on the walls and then do the door frames, cornice and window frames in a slightly different shade too. This will help with the light coming through the windows. If you wanted something with a bit more to it, you could do a statement wall paper on the wall on the dining room (near the kitchen door) with Art or a mirror on.. this will help zone that area. giving it its own identity. I would take a colour from that wallpaper and do the fireplace to make it more of a feature (this is then your accent and can be brought out in the cushions). I love minnis ideas on the chairs, they will really give the room a more spacious feeling and keep it modern. I hope that helps but if you require any renders to see the space before making purchases or would like help sourcing, we offer some very competitive packages so feel free to drop me message or email gina.everett@createperfect.co.uk. All the best, Gina...See MoreHow to improve a 1970s door surround
Comments (15)take down the palatial columns and the roof structure and start again. don't worry about the neighbours, once they see improvement they will all follow suit. I think that a pitched porch that doesn't squeeze the windows to either side of the door will work. the whole aesthetic needs to change. italy it isn't and the style and age really isn't best suited to an ionic column . The doornoptions have been suggested but I think you need some encouragement to go through whole hog!! you won't regret it!!...See More1970s Exterior Cladding whats behind it?
Comments (0)I am in process of buying this house, and wanted to get cavity wall insulation done as one of 1st things we do.The house front has quite the 1970s vibe, with off white cladding on top half of the house, stone brick on bottom half and some funky wood panel at bottom of the front window. All the rest of the walls have cream pebble dash. Not overly keen on the external look, and may want to do something down the line, but I definitely want cavity insulation to make the house more efficient, but my question, what's normally behind the cladding in these 70s homes, will there even be a cavity to fill?If there isn't, is external wall insulation the only option for that part of the wall, or could you brick up to make a cavity, or would that be more costly than the external insulation?...See Morehcw110383
