What colour front door?!

We're just about to have the windows replaced and finding it difficult to choose the colour of the front door so looking for some opinions/advice please.

Here's a pic of the front of the house, currently rosewood colour windows but changing to match the golden oak colour above the garage.

Thinking golden oak or potentially black? What do you think?

When someone is painting their front door for curb appeal, estate agents will tell you never to paint it black. It can look menacing and unfriendly to many people. As your walls appear to be cream, look at dark blues or dark greens.

Black, that's what I'd go for! Nothing beats it and it will blend with guttering etc.

Oh my goodness! If you're bold enough to paint your house frenzy purple, you don't need anyone's advice on what color to paint your door and fence, maybe just which shade of yellow. Why don't you post the yellows that you are thinking about and a picture of your house and then ask for HOUZZERs' opinions. (I would love to see a pic. of your house regardless.)

I like period features, where appropriate and practicable and do like our timber windows and doors. Actually, snobby or not, we’re not allowed to have UPVC windows and doors, being in a conservation area... We do however have one (invisible from the outside) external UPVC door. It’s easily the best functioning door in the house! :-)

Thanks. I've now realised that the door looks black in the picture even though it's actually rosewood but think it would look pretty good in black.

Thinking contemporary/cottage door rather than the traditional as well, something with a vertical plank design and central window.

If you decide on the contemporary/ cottage style then l think natural wood is the best choice , however if you decide to paint then a shade of green to pick up the foliage in your garden would look smart....palms in pots...where are you ...not the U.K. I suspect !

I agree entirely with Pat Oliver. There are some mid to dark blues which look exceptionally well. A light mahogany door will look well in most circumstances but don't do window frames or door in black, it is hostile and funereal.

I have just had a new black door fitted with chrome letterbox etc. It looks fab. So happy with it.

Think I still like the idea of a black door, we're trying to add a more contemporary feel to the place anyway and I think that will work well

Ali270 - believe It or not it's actually Essex, U.K, however admittedly the photo is from summer, things are a little more wet and windy at the moment and every picture I take just looks grey!

Yes golden oak would compliment the new windows as well as the brick detail below the bay window.

I wouldn't go black. I think it will clash with the brown of the windows. I'd go for a lighter colour that's less harsh. Maybe a sage or grey?

The psychology of colour would recommend RED !

Now you could make this a warm wine colour, or be bold and welcoming - or just have a red welcome matt it red is too much!!

Hi, although may be personal preference, similar colour to your window frames would be nice to match, also dependant to your garage door. We have a new range of Aluminium doors also with wood finishes, which are modern and traditional. We do have a lot more styles, but here are a few...

Hi it's very difficult to get a good door match to golden oak windows as the lamination foils are very different. Have a look at www.thedoorworkshop.co.uk for some contrasting colour options
