space for storage or more aesthetically pleasing radiators position?

hi :-)
would appreciate some feedback on a dilemma I am faced with.
we have just had our new bathroom fitted and I'm questioning my decision to put the radiator close to the sink to free up space for storage in the bathroom.
now I'm having 2nd thoughts! what's everyone's opinion? is it better to have space for storage or more aesthetically pleasing radiators position? thanks in advance :-)

Hi, what a great size of bathroom! Aesthetics win for me, the radiator looks out of place where it is (sorry). For the expense you're going to I would move it further along the wall. From a safety point of view, it doesn't look safe for young children standing at the sink. Would there still be space for storage or would open shelving solve the problem for storing towels and a wall mounted cabinet for toiletries?

You could have a towel rail at a high level above the bath.
You could have a bank of mirror cabinets on the wall above the sink so storage shouldn't be a problem,
Personally though I would still move the radiator- the sink will splash and so you will need to be able to wipe the walls near it.

I agree with the comments about covering whatever you have with a radiator cover - to reduce ugliness and provide a really useful shelf above. However, whether you go down that route or not, the location is a super-important aspect. Mine is in exactly the wrong place - and it was my decision - and I regret it every day. The trouble is that it took a lot of drilling through concrete below original terracotta tiles (I had no idea it would mean that) so if I move it again it means more wrecked floor and how the pipes would work is impossible to imagine. I can't cover it up with a cover as it is in a small corner next to the front door and fits the space exactly, end to end. A cover would stop the door from opening. I had hopeless advice from the plumber installing the radiator; advice I have to live with - bitterly. Mine is in a hall like yours with the radiator opposite yours but facing the hall (my window is half length). I didn't want it where yours is as I thought it would protrude just where people arrive or leave. I reckon yours is in the right place; it just needs to be prettied up a bit.

Thanks KWG - this is not good but there is always a solution. 1. The most hassle-free and least bothersome to the plumber is to increase the thickness of the wall. For condensation issues your plasterer has raised, you should ask for 'foil-backed' plasterboard. These are vapour panels that block or limit condensation. Get the best rated one. 2. The alternative is to change your radiators to a configuration that allows the pipe to attach from behind and the valves attach from underneath (see image). It will save you a crucial 8-10cm. Thanks all for your comments! Lots to look through and think about. We've just recently extended out the back and put a wall up between the kitchen diner and lounge as it used to be a large lounge diner. Because of my builder changing things at the last minute the living room is smaller than I imagined and the funny indented bit has really thrown me. I hadn't thought of putting bookcases or shelving all along that wall but it would be useful storage and display space and hide the kids toys as suggested. I'm googling ikea bookcase hacks as we speak ;) The only thing is, would a tv on that wall get too much glare from the window opposite? We do ultimately need a new radiator in here as its the only one apart from my sons bedroom that wasn't changed when we extended, so I could go for a tall one on that wall as you come in the porch door. Are they as powerful as standard radiators though? I worry most of the heat will come out at the top of the room instead? Papayalady i'd love to see your entire living room view?! for inspiration :)

Excellent idea there by @Jonathan. You'd have to move the radiator (or perhaps change it to a column and place in the corner?) but it'd be a nicer placement of the bed, better paths around the room and way more storage. Personally, I'd go one less wardrobe and have the vanity table and chair parallel to the bed with a large wall mirror and overhead shelves If you want a simpler option, option 1 looks the best solution.

Personally I think the radiator is fine - you just need the sink closer to the toilet (ie equidistant).

thanks for everyone's kind input. I have sent a message enquiring how much it will cost to move it up to the centre. if it's affordable I'm definitely going to do it. it seems a shame for the rad to be squished in. I will look at wall storage later down the line. many thanks again :-)

That's a lovely sized bathroom ffawnog! You're very lucky!

We would suggest maybe thinking again about the radiator you have in there. We love the more traditionally styled column rads like that, but maybe getting a slimline one that is a little taller may be a solution.
